Summary
Despite being an honorable and powerful swordsman,Roronoa Zorois one of manyOne Piececharacters that has an incredible fashion sense. This is not much of a surprise, since author Eiichiro Oda has proved several times that he can design some unique outfits that also represent the personalities of his characters.
As a result of this philosophy, Zoro has managed to display a vast & diverse collection of different attiresthroughout his challenging journey to become the world’s strongest swordsman, which is quite surprising for a reserved character like him. However, some of his outfits are inevitably better designed than others, and the following eight are the best ones in his entire wardrobe.
8Sabaody Archipelago Outfit
A Casual Look For A Fun Vacation
Similarly to Monkey D. Luffy, sometimes all it takes for Zoro is to change one piece of clothing to transform his regular outfit into a new and memorable one. And this is exactly what he did in theSabaody Archipelago Arc, where he swapped his regular shirt for a fashionable red & white striped shirt.
The Straw Hat Pirates saw their arrival as an opportunityto relax and visit the many interesting locations of the archipelago, so they were practically enjoying a short vacation. Zoro’s new shirt perfectly fits this casual mood, not to mention that he wears it open so he can proudly display the scar that Mihawk gave him.
7Desert Outfit
Perfect For Roaming Around The Hot Desert
Arabastaisan interesting location that is obviously inspired by Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries. So, when the Straw Hat Pirates had to traverse through the hot desert of this kingdom, they had to change into appropriate sets of clothing, and Zoro was one of the standouts.
It’s really quite simple: he wore a coat on top and a keffiyeh of his original outfit, but it works so well. The coat has such a fascinating and intricate design that, coupled with the keffiyeh, it really helps him blend into the culture of the region while also being practical for his journey through the desert.
6Original Outfit
An Undeniable Classic With A Cool Twist
Like all of his crewmates, Zoro’soriginal outfitthat he used in some of the earlier story arcs of the series is also his most recognizable one. It certainly deserves this prestigious status, as it perfectly combines his pirate and samurai elements into one unique design. On top of that, it also seems light & comfortable, which is crucial for a character that is always carrying three katanas.
But the final touch that makes Zoro’s first outfit so iconic is his black bandanna. He usually wears it wrapped around his arm, but whenever things get serious in the middle of a fight, he wears it on his head, and it looks amazing. This is a perfect example of aOne Piececharacter using his clothing to convey a mood, and fortunately, this is something that Zoro kept doing with other outfits.
5Post-Timeskip Outfit / Raid On Onigashima Outfit
Looking More & More Like A Seasoned Swordsman
After spending2 yearstraining under Mihawk,Zoro returned to the Straw Hat Pirates wearing brand-new clothes that make him look stronger and more intimidating. This samurai-inspired appearance obviously became his second most recognizable one, and he fortunately kept his black bandanna wrapped around his arm.
Later down the line, Zoro wore a modified version of this attire during theRaid on Onigashimathat took place during Act 3 of the Wano Country Arc. The main difference is that this one has a black coat, which looks incredible and seamlessly fits into the aesthetic of Wano, a country that is mostly inspired by Japanese culture.
4Film: Z (3rd Outfit)
The Definitive Version Of His Iconic Post-Timeskip Outfit
Sometimes Zoro’s non-canon outfits leave a lot to be desired, but luckily,One Piece Film: Zfeatures what is one of his most amazing looks.During the movie’s climactic final showdown, all the Straw Hat Pirates simultaneously change into red clothing in order to fight Z and his crew. And Zoro obviously followed this color scheme with a lot of style.
This outfit feels like the natural evolution of his regular post-timeskip outfit, but with a nice color swap between his coat and his sash. This looks great, yes, but the thing that makes it stand out is the brand-new additional coat that Zoro wears on his back like a cape. It makes him look really menacing, and it’s quite unfortunate that he removes it later for his final clash against Ain.
3Dressrosa Outfit
Blending In, With Tons Of Style
Zoro usually wears simple Japanese-inspired garments, so he’s someone who would not wear a fancy suit. However, when he did end up doing so, he looked absolutely fantastic. This is exactly what happened during theDressrosa Arc, whenhe and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates were trying to go incognito in Doflamingo’s territory.
Curiously enough, the sunglasses and fake mustache looked very good on him. But when his identity was eventually exposed, he kept the black suit with a white shirt underneath. It’s relatively plain attire, but it looked so great on him that it proved Zoro should definitely wear stuff like this more often.
A Modern Look For A Futuristic Location
The recentEgghead Arcfeatureda collection of unique retro-futuristic clothing for the Straw Hat Pirates. The men of the crew greatly benefited from this change in style, and Zoro was a definite standout. As previously mentioned, he usually wears more traditional garbs, so the change into a more modern and contemporary look was a nice surprise.
As expected, the black shirt & pants fit him very well, but it’s his brand new puffy jacket what makes this outfit such a memorable one. Thanks to all this, Zoro looks like a fashionable person who could be walking around with style in the modern real-life world. Lastly, he also carries his katanas on his back now, instead of his waist: A small touch that improves this solid outfit even more.
1Wano Country (1st Outfit)
The Amazing Samurai Outfit He Desperately Needed
Roronoa Zoro is quite obviously a Japanese-inspired character who acts and looks like a samurai. This was reflected in every single one of the outfits he wore throughout the series, but when he finally reachedWano(a country entirely based on Japan), he blended in by wearing detailed clothing that made him look like the respected and fearless samurai he always was.
The white yukata, coupled with the green haori on his back, looks simply amazing. These two elements already made Zoro seem like a respected Wano samurai, but he also changed his hair into the traditional chonmage style, which was used by Japanese samurai in the real world. This is such an undeniably good look for the Pirate Hunter that it’s even enhanced by his three katanas, instead of being brought down by them like most of his other outfits.
