ThroughoutWorld of Warcraft, you may find sets that provide certain bonuses if you have items from the same set. Aside from the heirloom set bonuses, the most common example of set bonuses would be fromraid tier gear. Every class has a set of armor that only they can use, and these sets often provide bonuses that are so powerful that they take priority over other armor.
With LFR, raid tier gear is much easier to get than ever before. But for players who don’t want to raid at all but still get tier gear, there is a way to do this in the form of the Catalyst. Here is how this system works inWorld of Warcraft: The War Within.
Where to Find the Catalyst
The Catalyst is the name of the machine that you can interact with in Dornogal, and it can be found at (X,Y) [50,54]. This machine is capable of taking any eligible Season 1 Epic quality gear and turning it into tier gear from Nerub-ar Palace. Specifically, you will need Veteran Gear or better to be able to convert it.
Keep in mind that only certain pieces of armor can turn into tier gear that provides set bonuses. Only helmets, gloves, chest, and shoulder armor can provide set bonuses. If you use the Catalyst to convert any other armor piece, you just unlock a new appearance.
Using the picture above as an example, ifa Demon Hunterwere to take their Treasure Seeker’s Epaulets and use the Catalyst, that shoulder armor would become War-Mantle of the Hypogeal Nemesis. Since this player already has one piece of set gear equipped, they would gain the first set piece bonus, which would boost the damage that Blade Dance does by 20%. But in order to convert a piece of armor into tier set armor, you will need to have Harmonized Silk.
How to Get More Harmonzied Silk
Harmonized Silk is a unique currency that is used by the Catalyst to convert gear. It generates passively, so you do not need to do anything special to obtain more of it. That said, generating Harmonized Silk is a long and slow process. Aside from the one that you start with, it takes two weeks to get another Harmonized Silk. You can hold up to a maximum of eight Harmonized Silk.
Since it is such a long wait to get more Harmonized Silk, it’s best to try and save it for when you have gear with a higher item level. By doing this, you aren’t wasting the Harmonized Silk on something that could easily get replaced by an itemin your Great Vaultthe following week.
