Summary

World of Warcraft: The War Withinofficially has its own version of the Butcher – the iconic dungeon-invading boss ofDiablo 4– in the form of Zevkir. While exploring Delves in the newWorld of Warcraftexpansion, the Nerubian monster occasionally raids the instance and attempts to wipe out the unsuspecting delvers.

Delves are a new evergreen leveling and endgame pillar introduced inThe War Within. Players can enter these instances solo or in small groups alongside NPCs like Brann Bronzebeard, allowing them to obtain powerful gear, endgame currencies, and cosmetics. WhileWorld of Warcraftis still working out some kinks with Delve difficultyand scaling, the general reception to the new activity has been overall positive.

However, there is a hidden danger in these Delves that fans should be aware of. As of thestart of Season 1 ofWoW: The War Within, players are reporting Zevkir – the not-so-secret boss of the hidden final Delve – invading their Delves in an attempt to slaughter any characters in the party. This tactic will be familiar to fans ofDiablo 4, as it is the exact same one used by the infamous Butcher.World of Warcraftplayer and Wowhead contributor Kalamazi experienced this invasion firsthand while streaming Delves on Twitch.

Zevkir – The Butcher of WoW: The War Within’s Delves

Zevkir is a devastating foe to encounter in the middle of a Delve. He uses the same boss abilities from his solo encounter, including a frontal stunning cone attack and an AoE fear that does massive damage. The boss lingers until he either wipes the party or is reduced to half health, after which he leaves, allowing players tocomplete theWorld of WarcraftDelve as normal. Players who defeat him get some additional rare Delve loot, plus the Relicblood of Zevkir relic for Brann, but those who fall prey to his ambush instead earn the Heavy-Handed achievement.

The Butcher is an iconic boss who originated in the originalDiablo. While he only left his chamber when kited out of it, he was known for doing ludicrous amounts of damage for his level. Though he did not appear inDiablo 2, he returned inDiablo 3as the final boss of Act 1, and again as a superpowered random dungeon encounter inDiablo 4. He even appears inHeroes of the Stormas a particularly devastating damage hero. As a spiritual successor to this legendary demon, Zevkir will no doubt keep players on the edge of their seats while exploring thevarious Delves ofWorld of Warcraft: The War Within.
