Summary
AWorld of Warcraftplayer shared their misery with fellow fans when they purchased wi-fi on a plane, only for it to be useless. FellowWorld of Warcraftfans have shared their sympathy with the OP for their wasted time and money.
World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, The War Within, launched on August 26, and players are understandably eager to explore everything it has to offer. While someWorld of Warcraftplayers have already hit max level, with some even reaching level 80 without leaving their starting area, there’s still plenty of gamers who have lots they want to see and do now that the expansion is out. Unfortunately, some fans have been having problems with that.
Enter wro-butt, who shared their plight withWoWplayers on Reddit. The fan was excited enough to play the game that when they boarded a three hour flight, they still wanted to hop into the game and exploreThe War Within’s questsduring that time. As a result, they spent $15 on wi-fi access, with adequate - but not great - speeds, as the player only noticed a couple seconds of noticeable lag in combat situations. However, their fun time was cut short, as the servers went down for maintenance 15 minutes into their flight. The included photo shows the player facepalming in front of their computer with the login/server status on the screen.
MMORPG Maintenance is Ultimately Inevitable
World of Warcraftfans have shared in wro-butt’s misery, with many complaining that there have been too many instances of maintenance since the expansion dropped. Others have said that they feel the amount of maintenance is about on-par with prior releases inWorld of Warcraft, but nonetheless, this player unfortunately had bad timing. Another cautioned the player, telling them they knew someone who had allegedly beenbanned fromWorld of Warcraft Classicfor trying to play the game while flying across the world. Presumably, the IP address they were using on the plane had something to do with it.
Unfortunately, unexpected and frequent maintenance is just part of life for many games when they first launch or drop some form of expansion. Fellow MMORPGFinal Fantasy 14had to work hard to ensure that players weren’t facing the same insane queues when Dawntrail launched that they did when its second-to-last expansion Endwalker dropped. Even so, it wasn’t able to avoid all problems, asFinal Fantasy 14compensated players for Dawntrail issuesin its early days. It’s arguably better to have the maintenance implemented soon and even frequently if the alternative is playing a buggy, broken game. In any case, it might be better to find something else to do while on an aircraft than trying to playWoW.
