Summary

World of Warcraftis adding a new Dracthyr-only Skyriding feature called Squadrons that allows players to soar through the skies together. This new talent will be added to all Dracthyr Skyriding trees, enabling them to fly in formation together with other Dracthyr characters inWorld of Warcraftwhile using Soar.

When Dracthyr were first introduced inDragonflight, their racial ability, Soar, allowed them to use a limited version of Dragonriding – now known as Skyriding – that used its own cooldown and skills. In Patch 10.2.5, Soar graduated into full Skyriding, whichlet Dracthyr use the system in all flying zones ofWorld of Warcraft.

However, Dracthyr are soon getting a new feature with Soar that is unique to them. In Patch 11.0.5,World of Warcraftis introducing the Squadron – a new Skyriding talent that allows Dracthyr to fly in formation with up to two other Dracthyr players while using their own wings to Soar. All Dracthyr will be able to enable this Skyriding talent via their tree, but with no additional cost, akin to talents like the Ride Along feature.

Dracthyr Squadron Skyriding Feature in WoW Patch 11.0.5

Dracthyr come from a highly-regimented background of soldiery, so the Squadron feature fits their lore perfectly. Only Dracthyr will have access to this ability; other characters can use the Ride Along feature while Skyriding mounts to bring passengers with them, but doing soturns theWorld of Warcraftcharacter into a baby dragon, gryphon, or other pets that fly alongside the mount. Blizzard has not said if it would expand this feature to normal Skyriding in the future, but it is technically possible.

That isn’t the only good news Dracthyr players have gotten recently. The same patch that introduces the Squadron feature is also adding Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warrior, and Warlock asclass options for Dracthyr inWorld of Warcraft. These characters will be able to fight in Dracthyr or Visage form, and will still be able to use the Tail Swipe and Wing Buffet racial abilities, albeit on a longer cooldown.

Patch 11.0.5 itself does not have a release date quite yet, but players have a good idea when it will arrive. The update brings with it themassive 20th anniversary event forWorld of Warcraft, set to take place in all of November and December. Considering late October would line up with the event schedule and the eight-week release cadenceWorld of Warcrafthas committed itself to inDragonflight, fans can probably expect the patch to arrive around October 22 or 29.
