Season of Discovery is the latestWoW Classicexperiment where players can collect class-altering Rune engravings, challenge new versions of iconic encounters, and even discoveroriginal dungeons never seen inWorld of Warcraftbefore. The servers are currently in their fourth phase, which was the first to take fans to theWoW Classiclevel cap of 60.
Though they’ve finally hit max level,WoW ClassicSeason of Discovery is far from over. During a recent blog post,World of Warcraftrevealed that Phase 5 of Season of Discovery hits the servers on September 26. The update will add tons of content to the game, but the two biggest features in the new phase are revamps of the Blackwing Lair and Zul’Gurub raids.
WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 5 Start Date
Blackwing Lair in Season of Discovery is a 20-player raid, but it will be tuned to allow up to 40 characters. ThisClassicraid pits heroes against Nefarian, son of Deathwing, and allows them to obtain the Tier 2 sets – gear so iconic thatWorld of Warcraftis uprezzing it for its 20-year anniversary event. Zul’Gurub is tuned for between 10 and 20 people, and it drops powerful progression gear that can be obtained.
The rest ofWoW ClassicSeason of Discovery Phase 5 is currently shrouded in mystery, but dataminers may have found a few clues as to what it might entail. Global strings for several new dungeon maps named the Burning of Andorhal, Starfall Barrow Den, and Shadow Hold have been discovered, as has a Legendary weapon inspired byUther the Lightbringer’s hammer inWorld of Warcraft. Blizzard may preview these or other upcoming features between now and the update’s release, but most of the secrets will likely remain hidden until Phase 5 is officially out.
There’s still a little bit moreClassic WoWfor Season of Discovery to roll out after Phase 5. The Ahn’Qiraj and Naxxramas raids still need their Season of Discovery treatment, so there will likely be at least one or two more phases before the end of the experiment. TheWoW Classicdevs have hinted at something big coming in Season of Discovery, so it seems like the final updates of the servers plan to send off the special game mode with a bang.
