The Bofurin are one of the strongest gangs in the Wind Breaker seriesand are also students of Furin High School. Led by their powerful yet wise leader, Hajime Umemiya. The main reasons why the Bofurin exists is to protect the citizens of Makochi from rival gangs and trouble.

The Bofurin are also known to have a powerful presence and, just like their rival gangs, they engage in street brawls and turf wars for respect and dominance. They are also recognized as one of the stronger gangs in the series and consist of fighters skilled in hand-to-hand combat and street brawling.

Who Are The Bofurin, and How Are They So Strong?

The Bofurin can be recognized by the Furin High School uniform which is a jacket that has a green and yellow pattern at the collar and cuff, the collar also sports an iconic button. The wearer is free to wear any shirt of choice underneath. Because of all the protection they provide the citizens of Makochi, the townsfolk are eternally grateful to them, providing the gang with free meals and showering them with appreciation.The protagonist of the series - Haruka Sakura, is initially shocked by all the praise and affection he is shown from the townsfolks, as he was more used to being made fun of by people because of his two tone hair color and different eye color.

The concept of gangs or delinquents is usually portrayed in a negative light, however the Wind Breaker series changes that aspect by showing viewers that not all gangs are evil or bad, but also have the capability of doing good in the world. In the series, the Bofurin are seen to be respectable youngsters who are fighting for a good cause and not to wreck havoc. But the Bofurin also have their own adversaries to deal with, the Shishitoren are one of them. The Shishitoren, led by their enigmatic leader Choji Tomiyama and their second in command - Jo Togame,are a gang of delinquentswho only care about being the strongest. Their concept of being strong goes so far as to kick out members if they are seen to be weak or not as strong as expected.

Who Are The Members Of The Bofurin?

The Members of the Bofurin Are the ‘Beating’ Heart of the Gang

The hierarchy of the Bofurin is structured in a way that there is one leader - Hajime Umemiya and under the leader are the Four Heavenly Kings who are in charge of their own teams. The teams are further broken down with each four kings having two team vice-leaders for each heavenly king.

Each class also has its own Grade Captain and two-vice captains who are his right hands. The Four Heavenly Kings are Toma Hiragi who commands the Tamon team, Tasuku Tsubakino leads the Jikoku team, Takumi Momose leads the Zojo Unit and Saku Mizuki leads the Komoku team.The Four Heavenly Kingsalso each have advisors who are their second in command. Below them are the second years, who are Ren Kaji, Yuto Kusumi, Takeshi Enomoto and Wataru Shiina. Kaji is seen initially mentoring Sakura when he was chosen as grade captain.

Other than the higher ups, the Bofurin also consists of the hot headed protagonist of the series - Haruka Sakura along with his comrades- Hayato Suo, one of the strongest first year students along with Sakura, Akihiko Nirei is also a part of Sakura’s gang and is the fight nerd, although he cannot fight very well, he is able to meticulously document other fighters. Kyotaro Sugishita isanother member of the gangwho is always seen brooding but is also known to be extremely strong, he also acts as a rival towards Sakura. Mitsuki Kiryu who is always on his phone but still a formidable fighter. Last but not the least, is the sporty Taiga Tsugeura who is always the more than enthusiastic member of the gang.

Ostracized due to his looks, Haruka relies on his fighting skills, so he joins a school with a reputation for having the strongest students in the region. However, as part of Bofurin, he slowly begins to appreciate the power of having companions.
