TheStar Warsgalaxy is home to a plethora of iconic planets, and some of the most iconicStar Warslocales are those at the heart of the franchise’s biggest and best action set pieces, its highest-stakes dramatic moments, and those that have a strong connection to the core cast of characters. Over the last few decades, Tatooine has continued to tick all of those boxes, appearing countless times inStar Warsmovies, TV shows, novels, and video games likeStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

The very first planet that fans ever saw in 1977’sStar Wars, Tatooine holds a very special place in the hearts of fans. It’s only natural, then, that many fans who have gone on to makeStar Warscontent have wanted to use Tatooine in their projects. But when it comes to remakingStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’s version of Tatooine, developer Saber Interactive shouldn’t worry too much about changing things.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Doesn’t Need to Focus Too Much on Tatooine

Star Wars Has Explored Tatooine to Death in Recent Years

Tatooine has appeared in countless pieces ofStar Warsmedia over the last few decades, and those appearances have only grown more frequent as time has gone on. From several appearances inThe Mandalorian, to being the primary setting ofThe Book of Boba Fett, to bookendingtheObi-Wan Kenobishow, Tatooine has been a focal point of live-actionStar Warsfor the last few years. And that’s just scratching the surface.

Tatooine has also appeared in a ton ofStar Warsvideo games over the last few decades, with some of the most recent appearances being inEA’sStar Wars BattlefrontduologyandLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The most recent appearance of Tatooine in video game form was in Ubisoft’sStar Wars Outlaws, where it gets an impressively detailed open-world translation.

Though it always offers a nice hit of nostalgia, and it can often be an easy way to bring in key aspects ofStar Warsfan-service, Tatooine is getting a little repetitive now. While Saber Interactive will still need to include Tatooine in itsStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, it shouldn’t spend too many resources on making any big sweeping changes to the planet, as many fans have had their fill of Tatooine over the last few years. Instead, Saber should prioritize lesser-known planets like Taris and Manaan.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’s Tatooine Is Already Beloved

Another key reason why Saber Interactive shouldn’t spend too much time or effort drastically changingTatooine inStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remakeis that the original 2003 version of the planet is still a highlight of the experience.KOTOR’s Tatooine is home to some of the game’s most iconic moments, from being harassed on the sandy streets by Malak’s Dark Jedi enforcers, to meeting HK-47, to infiltrating the Tusken Raider camp, to defeating a Krayt Dragon.

There’s so much world-building packed intoKnights of the Old Republic’s version of Tatooine, and while it all needs a fresh coat of paint and some modern gameplay reworks, the bones of the planet and its activities are still strong over a decade later.
