AsMarvel’s Spider-Man 2closes in on its first anniversary, the story of Peter Parker and Miles Morales' adventures as the web-slinging hero remains a strong comic book adaptation. The long wait forSpider-Man 2brought an exciting new chapter to life, ultimately leaving Peter with the choice of handing over more responsibility to Miles, as the former chose to embrace some balance in his personal life.

This open-ended finale leaves plenty of possibilities on the table for a third game in the series. With leaks revealing that a Venom game is also on the horizon, many fans are hoping for more Spider-Man content soon. Although manyfans still hold out hope forSpider-Man 2to get DLC, developer Insomniac has not confirmed or denied any intentions to expand the base game. There have been a series of updates since its launch, but DLC plans remain a huge mystery. The hope is still there, but players might not want to hold their breath for an expansion arriving any time soon.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man Releases Have Taken Their Sweet Time

Letting Games Breathe Between New Content

There could be an unannouncedSpider-Man 2DLC in the works, but this may be unlikely. Between the firstSpider-ManandSpider-Man 2, there were five whole years without any DLC content. Of course,Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moralescan’t be forgotten, but that was still two years afterSpider-Man’s 2018 release. If Insomniac continues to stay on this schedule, the next mainlineSpider-Mangameis likely years away. This is where Venom comes into play.

The game has yet to be officially confirmed, but Insomniac’s leaked Venom project would be on the same schedule between mainline releases if the rumored release date is true. AsMiles Moraleslaunched two years afterSpider-Man, the Venom game’s speculated 2025 release date puts it two yearsafterSpider-Man 2. If Insomniac is purposefully repeating this pattern, it could give a clear indication as to what to expect for the franchise’s future. While this could give fans an unofficial sneak peek into Insomniac’s roadmap, it unfortunately means that DLC probably isn’t going to happen.

The ending ofSpider-Man 2teases the arrival of Silk, potentially increasing the protagonist lineup even more.

WithSpider-Man 3potentially being the end of the roadfor the series, a desire for more content ahead of time is understandable, but it may also prove to be overkill. It’s possible to have too much of a good thing, and aSpider-Man 2DLC may cause an already content-packed game to become bloated. Following the infamous leaks, it’s also clear that Insomniac has its hands full with projects outside theSpider-Mansphere.

Insomniac’s Growing Marvel Roster Makes Spider-Man 2 DLC Even Less Likely

Not only is the Venom project likely to take up much of Insomniac’s time, butMarvel’s Wolverineis potentially taking up any space that time for DLC development allowed. Although the notorious hacks that leaked Insomniac’s future projects revealed much more information than the developer was hoping for,the reveal ofMarvel’s Wolverineinformation has made it clear that the studio is planning on expanding the scope of its Marvel universe. With so many projects in the works, it raises the question of whether aSpider-Man 2DLC is even necessary.

Since Insomniac has many more stories on the horizon, adding more weight toSpider-Man 2isn’t exactly needed. The game boasted a strong story and amazing open-world gameplay, which may have to ultimately be enough until the next chapter arrives.Insomniac’sSpider-Manfranchisehas focused around its strong storytelling, and if a DLC risks making the base game’s story weaker simply for the sake of extra content, it might not be worth it.
