Back in June,Palworldreceived one of its biggest updates yet with Sakurajima, as a new biome and 24 new Pals were introduced to the world.Palworldhas been one of the year’s biggest hits so far, and the Sakurajima update is a promising sign of things to come for the game and its future updates. While the game is currently still in early access,Palworldhas the chance to enhance its most unique concepts before launch.
The open-world title offers a fun blend of creature collection and survival gameplay in one experience.Palworld’s impressive success this year made it a surprise hit, but the game has also facedcriticism for being an allegedPokemonclone. Despite similar art styles,PalworldandPokemondon’t really share many similarities, and a difference is found in one ofPalworld’s biggest draws: weapons. When the game was first announced,Palworldwas being touted as “Pokemonwith guns.” The various weapons inPalworldthat players and Pals can use help it stand out, but Sakurajima, unfortunately, dropped the ball in bringing this concept further with Pals.
Palworld’s Sakurajima Update Missed Out on Adding New Pal Weapons
Pal Weapons Got No Love in Palworld’s Latest Update
Sakurajima added plenty of new features toPalworld. In addition to the new biome and Pals, new buildings and player weapons are some of the most exciting updates to the game. There was evena surprise NPC added in Sakurajimathat was left out of the patch notes. Despite seven new player weapons being included in the update, Pal weapons were left out completely. This is one of the biggest changes that doesn’t involve the game’s titular Pals, and it feels like a misstep.
After the Sakurajima update, there are now 163 Pals in the game, but only 12 of them can use, or be used, as weapons. Whether it is Foxpark’s Harness that allows players to use Foxpark as a flamethrower or Tanzee’s Assault Rifle that gives the adorable Pal a gun to wield, these types of weapons are some ofPalworld’s most stand-out features. For Sakurajima to be such a substantial update, it is surprising that Pal weapons were completely ignored, especially when there are 24 new Pals that could have been experimented with.
Palworld’s concurrent players on Steam peaked at a max player count of 2,101,867.
Moving forward, there are severalPalworldfeatures that need to be at the forefront of the gameat full launch, and Pal weapons feel like they are being left behind. Of course, this may not be the case for long. There is currently no official release date forPalworldto leave early access, but the game’s full launch could be the perfect moment to reveal more Pal weapons.
Palworld’s Full Launch Will Hopefully Give Pal Weapons the Attention They Deserve
Until an official launch is announced,Palworld’s time in early accessgives its developers the opportunity to work on improvements ahead of its 1.0 release. Since Pal weapons are such a unique concept, it doesn’t make sense for Pocketpair to set them aside, so there is the real possibility that the developers are working to make sure more Pal weapons are ready in time for the game’s full launch. Thinking of special ways that Pals can be repurposed as weapons can’t be an easy task, so it would be understandable for that to be a feature saved for post-early access.
As the year continues, it will be exciting to seewhat is next forPalworld. There is no telling how longPalworldcould be in early access, but as long as it means Pal weapons get the love they deserve, then it is well worth the wait.
