Summary
In this modern era of gaming, it’s simply expected that a big AAA game will receive some kind of support from developers after its initial launch. Even if a game ships with a ton of content, costs full price, and is primarily focused on delivering a single-player experience, many expect the game will receive at least one or twopost-launch updatesor content drops. The vast majority of the time, these assumptions are correct, and that’s the case withAge of Mythology: Retold.
A remake of the 2002 real-time strategy classic,Age of Mythology: Retoldlaunched with 50 campaign missions, an extensive skirmish mode, a few different multiplayer modes, and four distinct pantheons to play as, each coming with several Major Gods, multiple Minor Gods, and a plethora of unique units and buildings. That being said,Age of Mythology: Retold’s developers have already confirmed that there are some post-launch plans in the works, and there are some exciting things on the horizon.
What Fans Can Expect From Age of Mythology: Retold’s Post-Launch Support
A New Arena of the Gods Game Mode
Originally set to be part of the game at launch but delayed just before release,Age of Mythology: Retoldwill receive a brand newArena of the Gods game modesometime in the coming months. Details on this mode are still a little scarce, but it’s been confirmed that Arena of the Gods will be some kind of co-op challenge mode that tasks players with gathering “Blessings.”
The Return of the Red Bull Wololo: El Reinado Tournament
AnEsports tournamentthat’s been running since 2020, the Red Bull Wololo: El Reinado event returns in 2024, and this time it’ll featureAge of Mythology: Retold. Qualifying is set to take place on September 14 and 15, followed by the grand final on October 5. Fans can watch both the qualifiers and final live via Red Bull’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
Expansion Pack 1 Will Add The Chinese Civilization
Released in 2016 asDLC forAge of Mythology: Extended Edition, the Tale of the Dragon expansion was a bit of a divisive one. Though many fans had been requesting an official Chinese pantheon expansion to the original 2002 RTS game, its end product left a lot to be desired, featuring a lackluster art style and samey units. The Chinese pantheon was left out ofAge of Mythology: Retold, but it’s been soft-confirmed that it’ll return via the game’s first paid expansion, which is set to hit the game before the end of the year.
Expansion Pack 2 Will Add an Unknown Civilization
OnAge of Mythology: Retold’s official community roadmap that was posted to the game’s Steam page a little while ago, a few vague plans for the game’s “future” are mentioned. Along with consistent updates and patches based on community feedback,Age of Mythology: Retoldwill receive a second DLC expansion.
If this expansion follows the same formula as the game’s expected Chinese DLC, then fans can probably expect to see an entirely new pantheon, along withthree new Major Gods, a slew of Minor Gods, and a bevy of unique Myth Units, regular units, and structures. But that’s all speculation at this point, as nothing has been officially revealed aboutAge of Mythology: Retold’s second expansion just yet.
