Summary

With the latestVenom: The Last Dancetrailer, one of the most powerful villains in any superhero universe was officially unveiled, with Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock being warned that this particular baddie is the reason the symbiotes are on earth in the first place. It certainly seems like an exciting way to end the trilogy and fans do know that the trilogy is ending in no uncertain terms, considering the movie is “the last dance.” There have been a few movies out there that were more specific about their intent.

WhileVenom: The Last Dancecertainly looks like an interesting way to end a series, it also offers some problems. And then there are the rumors about what the introduction of Knull means for a movie that isn’t going to have a three or four-hour run time. Even if thoserumors weren’t floating around, it would seem odd to introduce a character that is said to have power stronger than Thanos in the final film of a trilogy. It simply appears as though it’s done too quickly. It seems like an odd way to wrap something up when they could have introduced him in the first Venom and had the battle against the ultimate evil span several chapters. Unless, of course, this doesn’t wrap up anything.

Could Venom Be Headed To The MCU?

There have been more than a few rumors floating around the super hero movie world that claim the real thing thelast leg of promosforVenom 3is showing off is how Eddie Brock and his symbiote buddy will jump from the rather troubled Sony Marvel universe to the MCU. In fact, these rumors seem to indicate that the introduction of Knull isn’t wrapping up anything and there’s reason to believe this might be the case. The thing fans getting excited about those rumors need to understand is that this identical kind of talk has been around before.

In fact, Sony has intentionallyrun a few misdirects in this area. This isn’t anywhere near the first time that talk of Venom jumping into a Spider-Man movie was imminent. And yet, so far Sony has pulled the football away from fans like the company is Lucy and the audience is Charlie Brown. And considering Sony hasn’t had any qualms doing it before, there’s no reason to believe they wouldn’t do it again to get people to go see the final installment of itsVenomtrilogy.

How Could Venom’s Story Be Incorporated?

There is also the argument that it simply doesn’t make much sense forVenom: The Last Dancetotie intoSpider-Man 4considering the introduction of the villain in the original movies and the comics was that the symbiote was a mystery. Peter Parker didn’t realize what it would do to him when he fully embraced it. That he didn’t even know what it was. And of course, that the symbiote was full on evil when it first infected Peter. Sony has now spent three movies turning the villain into a hero. Venom spent about 15 minutes being an anti-hero in the first film and now he’s on par with Spidey as far as saving lives and doing good.

to blend Venom into the MCU, Kevin Feige and company will have to make quite a few changes to the lore. And that doesn’t seem like something Marvel fans would love. The rumors thatTom Holland’s Parker will find the suitand then all sorts of things will go wrong is testament to that. While Eddie Brock still has to wrangle the symbiote plenty of dial back its base instincts, it’s clearly learned morality lessons that wouldn’t all of a sudden be wiped out on another host body.

A Thanos Approach To Knull Would Be Intriguing

Having said all of that, it’s not hard to see why people are excited about a tie-in from theVenomfranchiseto Spider-Man and the MCU. Especially if Knull really is as powerful as he in the comics. If he’s on the level of, or even surpasses Thanos then it would make sense to introduce him inVenom: The Last Danceand then have him carry over as well.

Sony has hinted at MCU crossovers with no payoff several times before.

If he’s as powerful as the comics make him, he’s not someone that could be defeated as a late arrival in a single film. This is in fact, the thing that makes the most sense forVenom 3. It’s the one thing thatmakes all the rumors less confusing. There would still need to be an awful lot of retconning of the story of how Peter Parker puts on the suit and what happens after. Unless the goal is to never have Parker wear the suit at all, and Venom simply jumps over to the MCU as an ally. It’s possible a great deal of this confusion will be cleared up whenVenom: The Last Dancereleases on October 25.
