Summary
Ubisoftis known for creating amazing stories with open worlds and a ton of things to do. They know how to do it in a modern setting as well as in a historical one, giving their gamesa ton of variety that players can enjoy. In fact, it’s arguably one of the main reasons they keep coming back for more release after release.
That said, as varied as they are, there are also a few elements that almostevery Ubisoft franchiseshares and that’s a tower system. Across most of the developer’s titles, players can reach towers and other recon points to unlock additional areas of the map and locate new quests. Here aresome Ubisoft games with the best tower systems.
When Jason Brody and his friends are stranded on the Rook Islands after a skydiving mishap, they’re captured by pirates led by no other than antagonist Vaas Montenegro. As the story progresses, Jason will have to fight to survive and escape the island before it’s too late.
Far Cry 3follows the Ubisoft tower system game mechanic by implementing Radio Towers, which reveal different areas of the map, as well as points of interest and other landmarks that can help players get a better idea of where they’re going. Exploring the island looking for towers is a very fun and rewarding experience that requires skill and stealth. That is,if players aren’t using mods—in that case, things will probably be a lot easier.
Watch Dogs 2follows the story of Marcus Holloway, a hacker from San Francisco who, after being framed for a crime he didn’t commit, joins the hacktivist group Deadsec. In an effort to clear his name, Marcus will work to dismantle government secrets and reveal dark truths to the people.
The game follows the Ubisoft tower system game mechanic to perfection by implementing ctOS 2.0 Towers, a new and improved version of the first game’s ctOS Towers. By interacting with the towers, players can reveal areas of the map. Like in the first game, players can hack into these towers to uncover collectibles on the map and other details about the surrounding area. All in all,Watch Dogs 2is one of the most immersive Ubisoftgames to date.
TheAssassin’s Creedfranchise has been around for almost two decades now, and throughout this period, Ubisoft has released some great games in its universe.Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagfocuses on Edward Kenway, a pirate who accidentally gets caught up in the long-standing Templar-Assasin conflict.
Assassin’s Creed’s Viewpoints are one of the most famous instances of Ubisoft’s tower system, as they have not only been around since the late 2000s but also typically culminate with an incredible leap of faith that can be hundreds of feet long. By climbing up buildings and other high areas across the Caribbean, players are able to “Synchronize”, revealing additional parts of the map, and other elements of interest.Assassin’s Creed: Black Flagis one of the best games in the franchise, with some ofthe most exciting memory sequences.
Far Cry 4follows protagonist Ajay Ghale returning to Kyrat to scatter his deceased mother’s ashes. Before he knows it, he is trapped in the middle of a civil war in the territory between the rebel forces and King Pagan Min’s forces. The game features a choice-based narrative that can change depending on players' actions.
As opposed toFar Cry 3, this game doesn’t have Radio Towers, but Bell Towers instead. To unlock different areas of the map, players will have to explore the immersive Himalayan setting of the game and uncover Bell Towers scattered across the land.Far Cry 4not only has one of the best stories in the franchise, but also breathtaking views that fit well with the many quests available in the game.
Assassin’s Creed 2is arguably the best game in the entire franchise. And this is not coming from a point of nostalgia, as many players agree that The Ezio Trilogy is the highest point in this universe. The game not onlyimproved on many of the combat aspectsthat the originalAssassin’s Creedintroduced, but also featured new tools, weapons, and armor.
While Viewpoints and leaps of faith had already been introduced in Altair’s story, both game mechanics were a bit buggy and were considerably polished for the following game. What makes the Tower System inAssassin’s Creed 2so great, is that players had to climb a significant number of Italian landmarks and famous buildings to reach them.
The firstAssassin’s Creedhad already implemented similar game mechanics, but the second game made climbing more detailed, allowing for different pathways. And there’s truly nothing like reaching a Viewpoint and Synchronizing with the Animus with the entire city of Florence in sight.
