Summary
Activisionand Tony Hawk are working together again. That’s according to the legendary skater himself, who hence suggested that anotherTony Hawk’sgame might be in the pipeline.
TheTony Hawk’sskateboarding franchise will celebrate its 25th anniversary in late September 2024. The series has been dormant since 2020, when Activision published Vicarious Visions’critically acclaimedTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2remake duo.
Tony Hawk Teases ‘Insanely Exciting’ Activision Talks
A follow-up project now seems to be on the horizon, according to Tony Hawk himself. Appearing in the latest episode of theLast Mealsseries from YouTube channel Mythical Kitchen, the skating icon revealed that he and Activision are “working on something.” The remark was made in response to a question about what’s next for theTony Hawk’sfranchise. “I wish I could tell you more, but I can tell you that I have talked to Activision again, which is insanely exciting,” Hawk said.
Tony Hawk Believes ‘Fans Will Truly Appreciate’ Mysterious Activision Project
While he didn’t budge when pressed for more details, the 56-year-old opined that the mysterious project “will be something the fans will truly appreciate.” As for what he could have been referring to, one possibility is that Activision revived the idea of doing asecond wave ofTony Hawk’s Pro Skaterremakes. Hawk previously revealed these were in the works by 2022, but the initiative fizzled out after Vicarious Visions was absorbed by Blizzard. Although the publisher was still open to doing the remakes, none of the developer pitches it had received since then intrigued it enough to greenlight them, Hawk said in 2023.
I wish I could tell you more, but I can tell you that I have talked to Activision again, which is insanely exciting.
Another possibility is that Activision is working on a new mainline installment in the long-running franchise. Seeing howTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2became the fastest-selling series release with over 1 million sales in ten days, there is no denying that there’s still significant interest in these games, which might have convinced Activision to invest in another completely original project. The latest new mainline entry in the franchise is nearly a decade old now, having debuted in the form ofTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5back in late 2015.
Whatever the case may be, it is plausible thatTony Hawk’sfans will learn more about this mysterious initiative on September 29, the 25th anniversary of the franchise. Activision has already updated its socials with a new series logo in early September, suggesting that some kind of celebration plan is underway. Based on the publisher’s track record, it’s likely that fans can at the very least expect a generous discount onTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2during the anniversary week.
