The manga ofTokyo Revengersfocuses on the story of main character Hanagaki Takemichi, as he unlocks the ability to time travel between the present and 12 years into the past through a simple handshake. He is motivated to do so after his ex-girlfriend in middle school,Tachibana Hinata, is murdered by the Yakuza. To change this present, he has to integrate into and change from the inside a biker gang located in Shibuya, Tokyo. This gang is named the Tokyo Manji Gang, or simply, Toman. By integrating into the gang, Takemichi tries his best to prevent the leader of the gang, the invincible Mikey, from turning evil due to unfortunate events and the influence of the main antagonist, Kisaki Tetta.

What Is The Tokyo Manji Gang?

The Tokyo Manji Gang, also referred to as Toman, is a biker gang that spawned in Shibuya, in Tokyo Japan. The gang was founded on the 19th of June, in 2003 with 5 original members, namely Mikey, Draken, Mitsuya, Kazutora, Baji, and Musashi.

The gang was formed after Mikey defeated Kazutora’s childhood friend and accomplice, who would then go on and retaliate with the help of the 9th generation Black Dragon Gang – a gang originally founded by Mikey’s older brother. The gang was specifically formed to fight against them, with Mikey assigned as the leader, and Draken as vice leader, with the rest acting as Commanders.

The gang holds a hierarchy similar to most biker gangs, notably, a leader that acts like the captain, holding the most authority in the gang, and just below her, the vice leader, or vice-captain, acting as an advisor and secondary leader. After those 2 ranks come the Commanders, who each supervise a division, and working right under their arm is a Vice Commander, chosen by the Commander to act as their advisor and right-hand. Subservient to them are the Squad Leaders, who hold authority over the rest of the division members.

The First Generation

The first Generation Tokyo Manji Gang is perhaps the one most people are familiar with, as the second generation one comes way later in the manga. This generation did go through a few changes, but overall the structure remained the same, and the leader held out too.

As fans know already, the leader of the first-generation Tokyo Manji Gang is none other than Sano Manjiro, better known as Mikey. He was assigned this role way back during the gang’s formation in 2003 as he was recognized as the most powerful member. Below him is Draken, acting as the vice leader. Throughout the story, Draken has always been described as being Mikey’s heart, assisting him to the best of his ability. He’s also one of the most powerful gang members.

When it comes to Commanders, it’s where the biggest changes have happened. When the manga started, the gang had 5 division captains, notably, First Division Commander Keisuke Baji, Second Division Commander Takashi Mitsuya, Third Division Commander Haruki Hayashida, Fourth Division Commander Nahoya Kawata, and Fifth Division Commander Yasuhiro Muto. Their order changes throughout the story, firstly with Hayashida’s arrest, where Tetta Kisaki takes his place, or with Baji’s death, Takemichi taking on his position as leader of the First Division. Also, after the Valhalla arc, a sixth division is added under Shuji Hanma, although it doesn’t last long.

The Second Generation

After the events of the Tenjiku arc, Mikey disbanded the Tokyo Manji Gang, and Takemichi returned to a seemingly good future. However, Hanagaki decides to go back to the past to save Mikey, and in the process of doing that, revives the Tokyo Manji Gang and creates its second generation.

While the majority of the members change, it retains the same structure as the former Tokyo Manji Gang – a leader, a vice leader, and 6 divisions, each with their Commanders. In this generation, Takemichi is the leader, despite being physically weak, mirroring Mikey’s older brother, Sano Shinichiro. Under him is Matsuno Chifuyu, who long acted as his right hand. The 6 division Commanders are made up of older Commanders and new ones, notably: Seishu Inui, Takashi Mitsuya, Haruki Hayashida, Nahoya Kawata, Senju Kawaragi, and Taiju Shiba. The Division Vice Captains in this version are Hakkai Shiba, Ryohei Hayashi, as well as Souya Kawata.

The Worst Version of the Tokyo Manji Gang

Perhaps the worst future Takemichi runs into, in this timeline, is where Tetta Kisaki became the right hand of Mikey. In this timeline, everything has gone south, and even Takemichi has become an awful person, alongside the rest of the members. In this version, Kisaki has pretty much taken over the Tokyo Manji Gang and turned it into the worst version of itself. This version even has a few members who used to be from

The Black Dragons. Thankfully, this timeline is short-lived as Takemichi decides to change it. Before he’s able to, however, Chifuyu loses his life.

Takemichi’s Final Leap

The Final Version of the Tokyo Manji Gang

Takemichi almost got married and lived happily with Hinata. However, he wanted to save Mikey from his darkness. Because of that, he undertakes yet another time leap to try and make it right.

Takemichi’s final leap with Mikeyallows them to fix everything wrong that happened in the story. In chapter 277, fans see how Takemichi and Mikey work together to fix all the mistakes and future problems that might arise. This timeline also changes the founding members, adding to the mix Takemichi, Sanzu, as well as Kisaki. Everybody is alive in this timeline, even Mikey’s brother, Shinichiro Sano.

This new and final version of the Tokyo Manji Gang sees Mikey and Draken as the leader and vice leader as usual, but also now sees Takemichi as the acting president. Here, this Tokyo Manji Gang has eight divisions, with the division captains being Baji Keisuke, Mitsuya Takashi, Hayashida Haruki, Handmiya Kazutora, Sanzu Haruchiyo, Kawato Nahoya, Shiba Taiju, and finally Kurokawa Izana.

The Tokyo Revengers manga concluded back in November 2022. Fans who wish to read the story can find all the volumes available with all the chapters.
