Summary
The amount of content Larian Studios created forBaldur’s Gate 3is truly incredible, allowing players to explore every location available in the three acts while engaging in an extraordinary story. The characters, enemies, and even the classes were meticulously crafted by the developers, enhancing the immersion brought on by the game’s rich setting.
However, despite being a massive game and continuing to receive updates post-launch, either throughofficial patches or fan-made mods, certain areas ofBaldur’s Gate 3could still use some improvement. While some updates are more complex and challenging to implement, introducing a few key changes could elevate the game’s enjoyment even further.
10More Content For Wyll
The Party’s Warlock Feels Overlooked
The primary cast of companions inBaldur’s Gate 3is filled withremarkable characters like Astarion and Shadowheart. However, players have noticed that, while some companions have plenty of content to explore throughout the game, others seem to receive less attention from the developers.
Wyll, the group’s Warlock, stands out as one of the companions who could benefit the most from additional content. Though updates during the Early Access phase aimed to make him more engaging, Wyll has received far less attention compared to other characters since the official release of the game.
9Other Companions Deserve More Attention Too
Halsin, Jaheira, Minsc, And Minthara Could Use Some Love
Alongside the Origin characters, who can join the party during the first act,Baldur’s Gate 3also features other companions that take longer to recruit, including Jaheira and Minsc, fan-favorites from the first two games in the series.
Although these characters are a welcome addition to the party, their story arcs arerelatively brief and underdeveloped, making it less appealing to keep them around for the entire journey. While these characters don’t necessarily need as much depth as the Origin characters, adding more to their arcs would certainly please the fanbase.
8Alfira As A Playable Character
Patch 7 Teased The Community
Alfira has been abeloved side character since the Early Accessdays ofBaldur’s Gate 3, with many players hoping she would join the main cast. However, upon the game’s official release, Alfira remained a non-playable character (NPC), despite fan theories and requests.
Larian Studios has teased players with Alfira’s temporary inclusion during Patch 7, especially for those playing as the Dark Urge. Alfira can be recruited briefly, but unfortunately, she meets a tragic end as part of the Dark Urge’s storyline, much like before. This small tease has only increased players' desire for her to have a more significant role.
7Inventory Navigation Needs Improvements
Easier Management Would Improve Late Game
ThroughoutBaldur’s Gate 3, players accumulate a wide variety of items, many of which are sold or stored for later use. However, as the story progresses, managing the inventory becomes increasingly cumbersome, especially as players reach the late game.
With so many swords, bows, scrolls, and armor to sort through, finding the right item can be frustrating. Additionally, each character has their own inventory, and it’s easy to forget who’s holding what. Improving the inventory system with quality-of-life updates, without relying on mods, would be a welcome change.
6More Information About Yenna
A Mysterious Character In Act 3
In Act 3, players encounter Yenna, a young girl searching for her missing mother. Even if the player rejects her, she will still appear at the camp alongside her pet cat, Grub. Yenna has an intriguing backstory, but unfortunately, not much else is explored about her.
Yenna’s main roleseems to be tied to the Orin plotline, as a potential kidnapping victim if other targets are unavailable. This makes her feel somewhat detached from the rest of the NPCs, but her story, especially concerning her mother, could be expanded in future updates.
5A Happy Ending For Karlach
The Tiefling Deserves A Better Fate
Despite the numerous hardships she faces, Karlach remains one of the most optimistic characters inBaldur’s Gate 3. She’s eager for battle and determined to fix her Infernal Engine heart. Unfortunately, throughout the game, it’simpossible to fully resolve her plight.
Dataminers have uncovered evidence of quests related to Karlach’s fate that were seemingly planned but ultimately left out of the final release. While there are hints that it might have been possible to save her, there is currently no way to give Karlach a truly happy ending by the time the credits roll.
4More Content For Evil Characters
Patch 7 Improved Baldur’s Gate 3’s Dark Side A Little
Patch 7 ofBaldur’s Gate 3introduced new endings for evil playthroughs, providing more satisfying conclusions for those who spread terror across the Sword Coast. While this addition was well-received, there is still room for improvement in this area.
Choosing an evil pathlimits the number of companionsplayers can recruit and the number of available quests, especially in Act 2, which is most impacted by this choice. Adding exclusive companions and quests for evil characters would bring more depth and attract even more players to try these playthroughs.
3Exploring The Upper City In Baldur’s Gate
A Crucial Part Of The City Remains Untouched
Fans ofDungeons & Dragonsare familiar with Baldur’s Gate’s division between the Lower and Upper cities, with each area featuring distinct characters and events. However, during the events ofBaldur’s Gate 3, players mainly explore the Lower City, with minimal interaction in the Upper City.
Although players can visit the Upper City briefly toward the end of the game, the area feels underutilized. Despite lacking the dangers of the Lower City, the Upper City could have been home to several interesting quests and interactions with key characters.
2Balancing Progression In The Game
Smoothing Out Late Game Progression
For balance reasons,Baldur’s Gate 3caps character progression at level 12. However, given the sheer volume of content available, this level cap can feel restrictive, especially for completionists. Players who thoroughly explore each act often hit the level cap well before reaching the game’s final stages.
This can make Act 3 less enjoyable, as there’s little progression to look forward toaside from completing questsand acquiring new items. While mods can raise the level cap to 20, aligning with the tabletop version ofDungeons & Dragons, it would be better if the base game addressed this issue.
1Tweaks To The Dark Urge Storyline
Improving A Unique Baldur’s Gate 3 Experience
The Dark Urge storyline stands out inBaldur’s Gate 3for giving players a protagonist with an inherent drive for malevolence, quite different from the usual heroic figure. Throughout the game, players must resist the Dark Urge’s instincts to commit heinous acts of violence, or else succumb to them and witness the devastating outcome.
While this character arc is fascinating, some fans believe that a few tweaks could enhance the Dark Urge experience even more. The main area for improvement lies in the interactions with companions, as their reactions to the Dark Urge’s actions often feel inconsistent, regardless of whether theplayer chooses to embraceor resist their evil tendencies.
