Summary

Spells inBlack Myth: Wukongoffer a variety of ways to tackle combat, whether it’s something offense-focused like Spell Binder or defense-first like Cloud Step. Through these and the three stances on offer, players can constantly try out new playstyles to tackle different kinds of enemies. What helps here is that they canrespec inBlack Myth: Wukongany time they want. However, one thing that can make things tricky is that most spells fall into one of two slots, so players can only equip one of each at one time.

Players unlock the various available spells as they progress through the game by defeating bosses. Although all of them are really helpful in combat, some are more viable than others. Players may not always wish to set aside time to farmSparks inBlack Myth: Wukong, and that’s where this list of the best spells to upgrade first comes in handy.

The spells are not arranged chronologically, but in order of the best overall value and upgrade priority. Players are free to invest points in spells that are available earlier on until they reach the more preferred ones. At that point, respecing as per playstyle is recommended.

6Spell Binder

Significantly Boosts Attack

Spell Binderis a good spell inBlack Myth: Wukong, but players are recommended to skip it if they aren’t adept at the game’s combat and bank on spell usage. When upgraded, it converts a ratio of mana into attack power, gives considerable health on activation, and even removes allFour Banes States. However, giving up on all other combat aids, including spirit transformations, vessels, and the like, is a very high cost. Essentially, players should go for it only if they have a great grasp on the combat rhythm and can make it through the game relying solely on their reflexes.

The higher attack power can come in handy, especially when amplified with medicines, but the bosses in later chapters hit quite fast and hard. As such, going through them with no spell aids can become more frustrating than tolerable, especially for inexperienced players. For those curious, the Destined One gets this spell after completing the"Treasure Hunter" questlineand defeating the Green-Capped Martialist boss in Chapter 3 - New West.

5A Pluck Of Many

Summons Multiple Duplicates That Can Aid Or Flee Combat

Players get theA Pluck of Manyspell by defeating theStone Vanguard boss in Chapter 2 - Yellow Wind Ridgeand heading into the cellar of the Crouching Tiger Temple. This spell is easily one of the best, but it’s not one that should be upgraded early on inBlack Myth: Wukong. The simplest reason is its high mana cost of 120. Early on in the game, or even in Chapter 3 or 4, using it means skipping about two or three charges of Immobilization, Cloud Step, etc.

While it is pretty good, especially when fully upgraded, its mana cost cannot be overlooked. There are also highly aggressive enemies who will still engage players despite the duplicates’ interference, or even launch AoE attacks that can massively cut down their health and reduce their impact.

If players invest in mana-increasing Celestial Medicines, then A Pluck of Many can be a particularly effectiveBlack Myth: Wukongspell. Its impact also increases if paired with Immobilization and others, but because of its limitations, and its long animation time that can be canceled on hit, it’s better to upgrade it later on when players have a better grasp on the combat rhythm.

4Rock Solid

Turn To Stone, Completely Deflecting An Attack

Players can unlockRock Solidby beatingTiger Vanguard inBlack Myth: WukongChapter 2 - Yellow Wind Ridge. Simply put, it turns the Destined One into stone for a second or so, allowing him to “parry” one hit. The spell comes with a low mana cost and cooldown, which further decreases when upgraded. Players also recover some mana upon a successful deflection, and gain some damage reduction and focus as well.

Even though it is unlocked fairly early, players should avoid upgrading it, as Cloud Step is a better pick in the same slot. Rock Solid can only protect players from a single hit. Further, while it is effective and gives benefits, it doesn’t always stagger enemies. Even the window it generally grants isn’t always enough to use the gourd ormedicines inBlack Myth: Wukong, let alone to relocate and restrategize. The range of its benefits also depends on the player’s reflexes and combat adeptness, which are usually low early on in their first playthrough.

3Immobilize

Halt An Enemy’s Movement And Leave Them Unable To Attack

Immobilizeis one of thebest spells that players should upgrade early inBlack Myth: Wukong. They can even max it out quite early. This spell essentially immobilizes enemies, allowing gamers some respite to use their gourd and medicines or to relocate to a safer spot. If they upgrade it, the benefits can really save them a lot of trouble down the line. Fortunately, they can unlock it by killingBullguard at the start of Chapter 1 - Black Wind Mountain.

For example, when maxed out, players deal more damage to an immobilized enemy, the spell’s duration lasts longer each time they’re attacked, the damage the enemy takes is considerably increased if frozen when they’re launching an attack, and much more. There are a couple of things to be concerned about with thisBlack Myth: Wukongspell, though. For max benefit, players should use it when the enemy is down or already staggered. This increases the spell’s effect. This is also important because strong bosses like Black Wind King andErlang Shencan parry the spell or break it off quickly if they’re up and about.

2Ring Of Fire

Summons A Ring On The Ground That Protects Anyone Inside Of it

The Destined One gets theRing of Firespell after the second fight withMacaque Chief boss in Chapter 3 - New West. It is easily one of the best spells to max out right away inBlack Myth: Wukong. When fully upgraded, the ring continuously regenerates health, amplifies medicine effects, gives some damage reduction, massively increases focus regen speed, and much more. Its relatively quick cast and long duration can be immensely helpful. The spell’s cooldown and mana are quite low as well, which makes it spam-worthy.

The sole con with Ring of Fire is that players have to be in the ring for max effect. However, when upgraded, they still get some health regen outside of it, and the active regen resumes when they step in again. Its base version is thus a setback, especially against aggressive and agile bosses, but it’s great when upgraded.

1Cloud Step

Become Invisible And Avoid Almost All Attacks

Cloud Stepis easily the best spell that players should upgrade first inBlack Myth: Wukong. The fact that it becomes available after defeatingBlack Wind King boss in Chapter 1 - Black Wind Mountaingives them a lot of time to get used to its mechanics and invest a bunch of points in it. Essentially, it disperses the Destined One into mist and allows him relocate anywhere while being invisible to the enemy. During this time, players can heal while the enemy is attacking a decoy instead. This gives them the chance to escape devastating combos, relocate to a safer place, and launch the Unveiling Strike.

When maxed out, thisBlack Myth: Wukongspell sends a damaging shockwave from the decoy whenever it’s hit, increases the duration of the spell, allows players to charge a heavy attack, increases the Critical Hit Chance of Unveiling Strike for 10s, and even increases the damage dealt. If this is paired with thebest weapons for Critical Hit Chance inBlack Myth: Wukong, the boost is very significant. Not only do players get almost total protection from attacks, but they can also launch a great attack themselves. The mana cost and cooldown are quite affordable as well. The sole con here is that some AoE attacks may break the Destined One out of the spell, but those are usually avoidable.
