As promised, Massive Entertainment has finally givenStar Warsfans an open-world adventure inStar Wars Outlaws. No longer areStar Warsgames tied down by a classic video game level structure or Metroidvania-like worlds. Now, they have virtually free rein to explore some of the franchise’s most iconic planets in a riveting smuggler adventure. However, althoughStar Wars Outlawsmay have done its planets justice, there is one that should have been included in the fun.
BecauseStar Wars Outlawsfocuses on the criminal syndicatesof the galaxy, it is only natural that they’d be inhabiting some of the IP’s most popular planets. It may be too late for Massive Entertainment to go back and add it now, but the next criminal-focusedStar Warsadventure needs to consider including Coruscant for the same reason.
Coruscant Should Have Been a Part of Star Wars Outlaws
Coruscant is Known for Its Criminal Side
Pretty much anyStar Warsfan will recognize the planet of Coruscant and its many skyscrapers. It had a prominent role throughout the prequel trilogy, being the center of the entire Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order. Additionally, it would appear throughoutStar Wars: The Clone WarsandThe Bad Batch. It has also appeared in all sorts of novels, comics, andStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s suite of explorable planets.
The planet of Coruscant was built as a multiple-level city, with its lowest levels being filled with criminal gangs looking to make their mark. These levels were not only polluted and infested with pests and dangerous creatures, but they were also devoid of sunlight and lacked many things that the upper levels offered. Because of this, they became a haven for bounty hunters, pirates, and influential crime families. Some levels even became notorious for just how dangerous they were, withLevel 1313 playing a prominent role inThe Clone Warsand almost getting a game named after it.
An Open-World Coruscant Would Be a Star Wars Fan’s Dream
The idea of Coruscant has been entrancing ever since itfirst appeared inThe Phantom Menace. Since then, many fans have been clamoring to be able to explore its many levels and interact with the people who call it home. Even thoughStar Wars Outlawsmay be set within the Outer Rim, it still felt like the perfect opportunity to give fans just that. So, if it gets another chance to explore theStar Warsuniverse in an open world, Massive needs to consider taking the adventure there.
An open-world Coruscantcould offer so many stories to discover that players may get lost within its city streets for hours. They could explore the wealthier side, see iconic sites like the Jedi Temple and Senate, and then plunge deep into its depths to interact with the darker side. Criminal syndicates like the Black Sun would be so much fun to interact with, and appeasing the countless crime families could make for an intriguing narrative. Plus, the planet is so big that it could even be the focal point of an entire game.
