Summary
Quidditch is by far the most popular wizarding sportin the world ofHarry Potter, and with the video gameHarry Potter: Quidditch Championsreleasing in the Muggle world, its popularity is once again surging.
Whichever of the four positions they play, thebest Quidditch players inHarry Potterhave a mix of raw talent, dedication to their craft, and sheer love for the game. While across the entire history of Quidditch, there are likely dozens of superior players superior to the majority of the stars in the books and movies, it is these better-knownHarry Pottercharacters that this list will focus on.
6Harry Potter
Seeker For Gryffindor
While Harry might not have ever reached the heights of players like Viktor Krum, there’s no denying that, for a young Hogwarts player, Harry Potter was a phenomenon. As the youngest Seeker in a century, Harry practically caught every Snitch he could, helping Gryffindor to secure the Quidditch Cup in his third year. Unfortunately, he got banned during his fifth year at Hogwarts, meaning his career was hindered.
He then chose to spend a yearhunting down Horcruxes, instead of practicing his Quidditch skills, so how far he could have gone in the sport will never be known. Perhaps in a timeline where Voldemort didn’t exist, Harry could have become an all-time great Seeker.
5Charlie Weasley
While Harry was perhaps the best Seeker of his generation at Hogwarts, his predecessor,Charlie Weasley, was apparently so good that he could have played for England. Charlie instead chose to pursue his other passion though; dragons.
What could have been will never be known, but Charlie did lead the Gryffindor team to at least one Inter-House Quidditch Cup victory, and those who witnessed his games always spoke of him in awe. Beyond being the Seeker, Charlie was also the team captain, and summer games at The Burrow likely helpedthe rest of the Weasley broodbecome great Quidditch players in their own right.
4Oliver Wood
Keeper For Gryffindor & Puddlemere United
If there’s one character inHarry Potterwho loves Quidditch more than anyone else, it’s Oliver Wood. Fiercely dedicated to the sport and the Gryffindor team for which he was captain, Wood spent his summers devising training regimes and tactics. His hard work eventually paid off in the 1993-1994 season, when Gryffindor finally won the cup which had eluded them for years.
In theGoblet of Firebook, Harry sees Oliver Wood atthe Quidditch World Cupand is informed that Wood had scored a place on the Puddlemere United team as a reserve Keeper. Fiercely competitive, driven to succeed, and with the perfect burly build for a Keeper, there’s little doubt that Oliver Wood went on to have a fantastic Quidditch career. Unfortunately, there are no details surrounding this.
3Ginny Weasley
Ginny Weasley is one of the manycharacters often overlooked in theHarry Pottermovies, despite her being one of the best book characters. While some of her Quidditch prowess was shown in theHalf-Blood Princefilm, it did not tell her entire Quidditch story. From a young age, Ginny would break into the family broom shed and practice flying in secret. Growing up with multiple talented Quidditch players likely helped too.
Therefore, by her fourth year, and thanks to Harry being banned from Quidditch alongsideher brothers Fred and George, Ginny had the opportunity to try out as Seeker. She caught the Golden Snitch in her two matches that year, winning the cup for Gryffindor, an early hint of her skill for the game. However, Ginny’s true passion was scoring goals as a Chaser, and she would do this for both her House and the professional Quidditch team, the Holyhead Harpies, after leaving Hogwarts. Ginny eventually became a Senior Quidditch Correspondent for theDaily Prophet.
2Ludo Bagman
Beater For The Wimbourne Wasps & England
Ludovic ‘Ludo’ Bagman is a colorful character whom, unfortunately, only book readers will know. Hopefully, this is one of the manythings remedied by the upcomingHarry Potterseries on HBO Max. In theGoblet of Firebook, Ludo Bagman is introduced as the Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports, and he also happens to commentate for the 1994 Quidditch World Cup final.
It is then revealed that Ludo Bagman was a famed Beater for the Wimbourne Wasps, helping them achieve three successive championships. In fact, Ludo was so good that he even made it onto the English national Quidditch team at some point during his career.
1Viktor Krum
Seeker For Bulgaria
IntheHarry Potterbooksand movies, there is one Quidditch star who stands out above the rest; Viktor Krum. An attendee of Durmstrang Institute, and Seeker for the Bulgaria National team, Viktor Krum was an international superstar and celebrity before he’d even left school.
In 1994, Krum led Bulgaria to the Quidditch World Cup final, where he caught the Golden Snitch to end the game on his terms and prevent Ireland from winning by a landslide margin. Harry, a fantastic Seeker in his own right, was in awe of Krum’s flying ability, which was unmatched in speed and agility. Later in life, Viktor Krum came out of retirement to win the 2014 Quidditch World Cup for Bulgaria.
