Superman & Loisdebuts in 2021 and will be returning for its fourth and final season in October. Showrunner Brent Fletcher shares new details about the show, including its newest cast member. He confirmed that an actor who appeared inThe Flashseries would be joining them. However, he shut down rumors that he would be reprising the same role.
Fletcher spoke toEntertainment Weeklyand discussed Tom Cavanagh’s role in the series. According to him, the Canadian actor is among the new faces inSuperman & LoisSeason 4, but they should not expect to see him portray his character inThe Flash. “It is definitely a new character from the DC Universe,” Fletch told EW. “It is not something you’ve seen before.” Cavanagh made his debut inThe Flashin 2014, where he portrayed the renowned scientist Dr. Harrison Wells, who founded the S.T.A.R. Labs. It was later revealed that the said version of Wells isthe villainous Eobard Thawne aka Reverse Flash. Aside from Cavanagh’s role, the other names who will appear in the final season ofSuperman & Loishave been kept confidential. Despite the secrecy surrounding the casting, showrunner Todd Helbing teased that they have a terrific roster of cast members. “If we tease them, we’ll spoil it. But I’ll say we have a couple that we think are fantastic,” Helbing said about the other new actors who are part of the final season.
AlthoughSuperman & Loisis ending after its fourth season, the showrunner admitted in the same interview that they planned for it to run for at least seven seasons. It was not easy for the production and cast members to accept that the show was ending after just four seasons, but they were relieved to wrap it the way they wanted. “Were able to end it exactly how we wanted to end it,” Fletcher shared. “And that means a lot for us.” The final season will be showing its own take on theDeath of Supermancomic book, where Clark eventually dies.
Cavanagh joiningSuperman & Loisplaying a new character instead of portraying a version of Harrison Wells or Eobard Thawne is exciting. Fletcher’s confirmation will surely spark curiosity among fans about Cavanagh’s new role because his character inThe Flashhas contributed to the show’s success and made him an indispensable part of the series. Fans are understandably excited about what he can bring toSuperman & Lois, considering his versatility. Also, if he plays a new role inSuperman & LoisSeason 4,it will give the series a breath of new life.
However, his fans may or may not like it. Some could feel a sense of nostalgia for Harrison Wells and Reverse-Flash because of his iconic portrayals of his character inThe Flash. Nevertheless, some might be thrilled to see him in a new character as it will be an opportunity for Cavanagh to step outside the shadow of Harrison Wells/Reverse-Flash.
