Summary

A terrifyingRed Dead Redemption 2clip has shown players the potential dangers of choosing to hunt while in first-person mode. Playing in first-person fundamentally changes theRed Dead Redemption 2experience, and this clip illustrates why perfectly.

One ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s biggest strengths is its sandbox. Rockstar has created a world in which it feels as though anything can happen at any time, givingRed Dead Redemption 2an amazing feeling of replayability. Almost six years after its initial launch, players still have unique interactions in the game. Just recently, anotherRed Dead Redemption 2player discovered a new Arthur and Susan interaction after 1,400 hours, showing that even the most experienced gamers can find something new to enjoy. Rockstar’s iconic Western game remains one of the most popular games out there, which could certainly be attributed to such a dynamic sandbox.

Redditor SheriffFreeman shared the clip with the game’scommunity online, which begins with the player hunting while usingRed Dead Redemption 2’s first-person mode. After killing a deer in the distance, SheriffFreeman approaches the corpse and attempts to skin it. Before they’re able to finish the animation, they’re jump-scared by what appears to be the game’s legendary panther, and are mauled to death in an instant. The legendary panther is tough enough to kill in third-person mode, but having the disadvantage of playing in first-person makes it even harder to track. In this instance, SheriffFreeman stood no chance.

Some gamers in the thread instantly recognized the location, and figured out that they would be killed byRed Dead Redemption 2’s legendary pantherbased on that information alone. The fact that the panther attacks Arthur from the front makes the clip so much worse, as they actually have a moment to see what killed them, rather than an attack from behind. While it seems as though the panther was totally silent, one player in the thread did claim to hear it after they fired the first bullet to kill the deer.

Six years after its release, many gamers are patiently waiting for any official news about a potentialRed Dead Redemption 3. With the development ofGrand Theft Auto 6hitting the final stretch over the next year or so, the gaming community shouldn’t expect anything concrete for a while yet. However, it’s not all doom and gloom for the franchise. A recent update to the Rockstar Games launcher revealed thatRed Dead Redemptionfans on PC may finally get to play the original game, a port that would be 14 years in the making.
