Summary
The beauty ofStarfield’s fully simulated star systems shines as one player encounters an incredible solar eclipse from the comfort of their spaceship. Having just celebrated its one-year anniversary last week,Starfieldis still enjoying a sizable community of space explorers who are enjoying the addition of the new REV-8 land vehicle, and who are eagerly awaiting its Shattered Space DLC later this month.
One of the most fascinating aspects ofStarfieldis that its star systems are fully simulated; planets orbit their stars in real time. As such, manyStarfieldplayers have come across striking viewsof other planets crossing the night sky while exploring planet surfaces. Because each orbital path is simulated in real time, players who wait long enough will be able to notice that these planets are actually moving and not just part of a static skybox. It’s due to this that Bethesda’s space-faring RPG serves as a great sandbox for space lovers who want nothing more than to journey through the cosmos in search of the most stunning planetary views.
OneStarfieldplayer came across a rare phenomenon while exploring one of the game’s earliest star systems. On Reddit, Far_Adeptness9884 shared a shot from the game of themtraveling in theirStarfieldship, looking at an incredible view of a real-time solar eclipse. The looming shadow of another, smaller nearby planet from out of view being projected onto the surface of the planet in front of the ship is truly breathtaking. SinceStarfield’s planetary orbits are fully simulated, Far_Adeptness would likely have been able to see the shadow move in real time if they stuck around long enough.
Starfield Player Witnesses Solar Eclipse From Space
While Far_Adeptness didn’t disclose which exact planet this was, they did confirm that this stunning event took place in the Cheyenne system, the home of Akila and Akila City, as well as of the Freestar Collective, one ofStarfield’s most important joinable factions.Starfield’s main story takes players to Cheyenne to visit Akila City with Sam Coe quite early on, and it being the home of the Freestar Collective, Cheyenne is one of the game’s most well-tread systems for many players. This just goes to show how rare a discovery like Far_Adeptness' can be inStarfield, just as they’d be in real life.
Starfieldplayers only have a few more weeks left to wait for Shattered Space, which drops on September 30. The DLC will bring players to Va’ruun’kai, the home planet ofStarfield’s most dangerous faction, the serpent-worshipping House Va’ruun. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of fascinating solar phenomena players might come across in Shattered Space, though it’s been confirmed that the DLC won’t offer any other new planets outside of Va’ruun’kai, which will include more than 50 unique locations for players to explore.
