Finally, after years of asking for one,Star Warsfans can now experience an open-world adventure thanks toStar Wars Outlaws. While otherStar Warsgames may have given them a way to explore some of their favorite locales, nothing has really delivered what Ubisoft aimed to do withStar Wars Outlaws. Even though it may not be perfect, the open-world areas are worth the price of admission.
Star Wars Outlawshas given players the ability to explore some iconic locales, including Tatooine. That has made for an unforgettable experience that futureStar Warsgames may not be able to compare to. Specifically, the likes ofthe hotly anticipatedStar Wars Jedi3might find it hard to compare. Because even though Respawn has crafted some exciting worlds to explore, it has never really done anything like this, and now that fans have been given free rein, they may not want to go back.
Star Wars Outlaws Has Finally Given Players the Galaxy
Star Wars Outlaws Showed Fans What an Open-World Star Wars Game Can Be
From the secondStar Wars Outlawsbegins, players know they are in for a unique treat. Not only does the game toss aside the lightsaber and Force in favor of the smuggler lifestyle, but there are also many sandboxes waiting to be explored. In particular, there are five different planets players will discover, with four of them offering exciting open-world maps. They start their adventure on Cantonica, otherwise known as Kay Vess' homeworld andthe location of Canto Bight. Then, they head off to Toshara, Tatooine, Akiva, and Kijimi. Each one is beautifully realized, filled with collectibles to uncover, and stories waiting to be discovered.
All of these worlds have been created wonderfully by Massive Entertainment, with each one feeling ripped straight from the films. Already, some fans are tracking down their favorite locations from acrossStar Warsmedia, and because of that, moreStar Warsgames may want to offer similar experiences. Players have now seen the potentiala true open-worldStar Warsadventurehas, which may have created demand for more, meaning it might be time forStar Wars Jedito go big.
Star Wars Jedi 3 May Need to Go Big
TheStar Wars Jediseries has been extremely popular, with many looking forward towhat comes next for Cal Kestis. Respawn has built an exciting Soulslike combat system, the Metroidvania-like worlds have been fun to traverse, and the story has been fantastic so far. However, unlikeStar Wars Outlaws, they are also far more constrained.
The worlds that Respawn has crafted forStar Wars Jediare fairly limited by their size. Players really only get to see small fragments of these worlds, withonlyStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Kobohfeeling like more than a simple video game level. Even though that has worked out well so far, the success ofStar Wars Outlaws' approach may warrant bigger worlds forStar Wars Jedi. They may not have to be on the level of what Ubisoft has built, but now that players have been given immense freedom, it might be tough to go back.
That said, there’s still value in that style of game. For years,Star Warsfans have been treated to a wide variety of experiences, with no two feeling alike. There is seemingly no reason that will change now, soStar Wars Outlaws’andStar Wars Jedi’s approach may be able to coexist without much issue. However, even if that is the case, Respawn may still want to take some inspiration from Ubisoft, and vice versa. Even if the games are different in gameplay, they could still build off each other to deliver the galaxy far, far away in all its magnificent detail.
