When Disney bought Lucasfilm back in 2012, no one really knew what to expect. TheStar Warsfranchise had been relatively dormantoutsideThe Clone Wars, the EU novels, and some video games. Yet, this acquisition promised so much more from the franchise, so fans were excited to see what came next. While they may have been treated to a wide variety of projects, it also came at the expense of titles likeStar Wars 1313. But luckily,Star Wars Outlawsmay finally be delivering on that promise.
Star Wars 1313was unlike anyStar Warsproject that came before, as it was going to delve into the galaxy’s criminal side. Sadly, it would never see the light of day once Disney shut down LucasArts and ceased all development. However, althoughStar Wars Outlawsmay not be as mature asStar Wars 1313was going to be, it does feel like a similar experience. And it may be the closest fans ever get to experiencing the hotly anticipated adventure.
Star Wars Outlaws Seems to Deliver On Star Wars 1313’s Promise
Star Wars 1313 Will Forever Be Missed
Star Wars 1313was first unveiled at E3 2012, and it quickly became one of the most anticipatedStar Warsprojects. Unlike some projects, it was going to have the direct involvement of George Lucas and would toss aside lightsabers and the Force in favor of a bounty hunter story. With that, the studio was planning on delivering a mature and gritty take on theStar Warsfranchise, the likes of which had not been seen before or since.
While not a lot is known about the plot ofStar Wars 1313, it was supposed to follow a young Boba Fett as he lived onLevel 1313 of Coruscant. The small segment that players got to see showed him fighting his way through a crashing ship as it delved deep into the planet’s underbelly. What would have likely ensued afterward was an adventure that saw players learn more about Boba and the criminal syndicates that called Coruscant home, while also getting a better look into the galaxy in the process. But, as of 2024, the concept has gathered dust, with it possibly never being revisited.
Star Wars Outlaws Has Given Fans a Slice of That Experience
Even thoughStar Wars 1313may never be released,Star Wars Outlawsseems to be delivering at least one of the things LucasArts promised. Instead of following Boba Fett, Massive Entertainment has crafted a storyexploring the scoundrel Kay Vessas she combats the criminal syndicates living in the Outer Rim. The story sees her go against the likes of the Pykes, Crimson Dawn, Hutts, and Ashiga Clan. And just like withStar Wars 1313, she does it with only a blaster at her side.
Star Wars Outlawsmay not be as gritty or mature asStar Wars 1313was going to be, but it does still seem to be showing players the darker side of the galaxy. Players get to see a side that the movies have barely touched on, and through that, Massive has deliveredaStar Warsexperience unlike any other. Plus, the open-world planets that the studio has crafted have done a great job of immersing players into this adventure, making them never want to leave.
While it remains to be seen ifStar Wars 1313ever gets revisited, at leastStar Wars Outlawsexists for those who want to experience a similar type of story. And if the game succeeds, there will likely be plenty more criminal underbelly stories in store forStar Warsfans, with one hopefully taking the mature route. But, even if that never happens, at least the criminal syndicates have finally gotten their time to shine.
