Summary

Still a major point of division among the fan-base even five years after its conclusion, theStar Warssequel trilogy is a bit of a mixed bag.Star Wars: The Force Awakenswas a fun, fan-service-filled adventure that strays a little too close to the original trilogy for its own good, andThe Last Jediwas an incredibly bold middle entry that was ultimately let down byRise of Skywalker, which itself was a rushed conclusion that tried to appease everyone, and in process appealed to no one. ButtheStar Warsfranchiselives on, andStar Wars Outlawsis here to provide another tale from the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Set betweenEmpire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jedi,Star Wars Outlawssees players take control of Kay Vess, a budding smuggler looking to make a name for herself. Kay Vess' journey takes her across the Outer Rim and puts her face-to-face with some of the galaxy’s most threatening lowlifes, many of which go a long way to fixing a common criticism leveled against theStar Warssequel trilogy.

Star Wars Outlaws Fixes The Sequel Trilogy’s Lack of Aliens

The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Lacks Traditional Star Wars Alien Species

Across three movies, theStar Warssequel trilogy added its fair share of new aliens to theStar Warsuniverse. From the Anzellan mechanic Babu Frik, to the Abednedo X-Wing pilot Ello Asty, to the Crolute portion-demanding Unkar Plutt, theStar Warssequel trilogyhas a few memorable aliens. But to make way for those new aliens, the sequel trilogy seemingly decided to remove the vast majority of the franchise’s staple alien species.

Rodians, Twi’leks, Trandoshans, Ithorians, Sullustans, Aqualish, Zabraks, and many other classicStar Warsalien speciesare very hard to spot in theStar Warssequel trilogy. While adding new aliens is an expected part of any good Sci-Fi sequel, removing these mainstays had a sizable impact on theStar Warssequel trilogy’s atmosphere. With these species being such a consistent part of theStar Warsuniverse across all of its mediums, their removal in the sequel trilogy left the universe feeling a little hollow to some fans.

Star Wars Outlaws Is Packed With Classic Star Wars Aliens

Star Wars Outlawstries its very best to make up for the sequel trilogy’s lack oficonicStar Warsaliens, with them being absolutely everywhere in the game. Sullustans, Rodians, and Twi’leks are often used as quest-giving NPCs, while Pykes and Weequays form the backbone of the Pyke and Hutt criminal syndicates. Zabrak bartenders, Mon Calamari informants, and Trandoshan bouncers can all be met within the first hour ofStar Wars Outlaws, and a wealth of other classic species can be seen simply walking around the streets of whatever planet the player is on.

To add that extra layer of immersion toStar Wars Outlaws, developer Massive has even made it so that a good portion of the aliens players encounter in the game speak Huttese. Though it’s mainly the language of the Hutts, Huttese is commonly used across theStar Warsgalaxy’s Outer Rim territories, which is whereStar Wars Outlawstake place. This paired with the consistent appearance of so many iconic alien species helps to makeStar Wars Outlaws' world feel authentic.
