Star Wars Outlawscreative director Julian Gerighty confirms a new update is coming soon that will improve the currently punishing instant fail stealth missions. As the first open worldStar Warsgame, Massive Entertainment’s latest title hasn’t yet hit the highs that other games in the series, such as the Star Wars Jedi games, have. However, even thoughStar Wars Outlawshas been bogged down a bit by various issues, the game is continuing to evolve and improve over time.
Letting fans live their scoundrel-like fantasies,Star Wars Outlawsdraws inspiration from the classic trilogy of movies to help set its tone. Unfortunately, the game hasn’t had the smoothest of launches, resulting inUbisoft’s stock price tumbling a bit, dropping 10% after a few days following the launch ofStar Wars Outlaws. Still, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment are dedicated to continually improving the experience for players, relying on feedback and data points to isolate gameplay and features which may be underperforming.
In arecent interview,Star Wars Outlawscreative director Julian Gerighty spoke about the game’s review scores, while also providing some insight into what players can expect to see. One area that has really not worked out the way the team has envisioned, especially early on, is with the stealth missions on Mirogana. Gerighty highlighted that these early missions are much more punishing than expected, as they were initially intended to create tension for the player, but according to the data the team has seen, these missions do not function as expected.
Star Wars Outlaws Preparing to Patch Stealth Missions
Specifically, Gerighty called out the instant fail aspect of these stealth missions, where a fail state is generated if the player is spotted by the enemy. Gerighty didn’t go too far into specifics, but admitted that, “we just don’t want it to feel unfair” and that instead of completely removing the fail state, “there are millions of low hanging fruits where we can make it so much more enjoyable and understandable.” Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait long as Massive is readying a patch that will be ready in the next week or so, arriving relatively soon afterStar Wars Outlawsreleased its first major update post-launch.
“And for me, that is a mistake, and this is something that we’re going to work on improving. I don’t think it means removing the fail state completely, but I do think there are millions of low hanging fruits where we can make it so much more enjoyable and understandable.”
In addition to continued game improvements through various updates, fans will be getting more content down the road thanks to previously announced expansions. However, some players have already started making a wishlist of sorts of what they’d like to see added to the game through future updates. It seems aNew Game Plus option forStar Wars Outlawsis high on many player’s lists, a popular feature that most games have either baked in from the start or added within a post-launch update likeMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
