It’s currently unknown what the thirdStar Wars Jedigame will be called, but it’s expected to wrap up the events ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderandStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, andconclude the story of Cal Kestis, the nightsister Merrin, and the pilot Greez. Saying goodbye to beloved characters is sad but necessary, and they deserve an ending to their stories that is worthy of the journey that they have led.
At the end of it all, when Cal set out on his journey, many players knew he would ultimately fail because of the events ofA New Hope. Cal’s goal to recreate the Jedi Order needs to ultimately fail, as the Jedi Order still doesn’t exist as ofA New Hope. This is a case where knowing the end point of the story doesn’t matter, the core of the story is the journey, and the ending may take the characters in a completely different direction. Why a Trilogy for Star Wars Jedi is the Best Bet
Structuring theStar Wars Jedigames as a trilogy is a good move, as it gives Cal’s story a clear beginning, middle, and end.Cal’s story doesn’t ultimately need to end in tragedy, but it does need to end. Continuing Cal’s story beyond its natural end point would stretch it beyond entertaining and make theStar Wars Jediseries incredibly dry, a fate that has befallen other video games and TV shows in the past, especially those focused on a single character.
The original movies were released as a trilogy, and a trilogy of games that tells Cal’s story pays homage to this classic formula that Star Wars uses. Even ifStar Wars Jediconcludes with the third game a massive success, it would be better for the story and the legacy of the characters to leave their story as is, rather than taking them andforcing certain characters' stories out longer than their natural conclusion. This happens far too often in the name of pursuing more sales, and if Respawn honors the characters and legacy it created by being brave enough to conclude it at the right place, it deserves to be praised.
