2024 has been a pretty good year forPlayStation, all things considered. Throughout the last several months, the PS5 has been graced with a litany of great games, including a number of high-quality exclusives. Some of the biggest titles of the year, likeFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth,Stellar Blade, andRise of the Ronin, launched solely onPlayStationconsoles. While these particular games were created by third-party developers, Sony’s first-party studios have delivered several new releases in 2024 as well, such as the charming 3D platformerAstro Bot, the short-lived hero shooterConcord, and the well-received baseball simMLB The Show 24. The Japanese console manufacturer is also set to release Guerrilla Games’Lego Horizon Adventureslater this year.

Compared to 2024, PlayStation’s release schedule for 2025 seems fairly vacant for the time being. At the moment, the only major PS5 console exclusive games scheduled to release next year, first-party or otherwise, areDeath Stranding 2: On the BeachandGhost of Yotei. However, there are apparently more PS exclusives and first-party titles planned for 2025; at least, that’s what the reputable insider Shinobi602 has claimed. In a recent post on ResetEra,the leaker hinted that Sony has more content in the pipeline for 2025besidesDS2,Ghost of Yotei, and the multi-platform extraction shooterMarathon. If this is true, then there are a lot of PlayStation first-party studios, rumored titles, and long-awaited releases that may show up in full force next year.

There Are Reportedly More Sony Games Planned for 2025 Besides DS2, Ghost of Yotei, and Marathon

Insomniac’s Next Game, Venom: Lethal Protector

One rumored PS5 exclusive that may debut in 2025 is Insomniac Games' unannounced Venom spin-off title, reportedly namedVenom: Lethal Protector. This game, which was leaked inthe devastating Insomniac hack from December 2023, is set to be the next installment in theMarvel’s Spider-Manseries. LikeSpider-Man 2, it will apparently feature multiple playable protagonists, with Venom taking the starring role.Venom: Lethal Protector’s scope and length will seemingly be similar to that ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales, and the title’s narrative will bridge the gap betweenSM2and3. Leaked documents from the aforementioned hack indicate that the game is slated for a 2025 release, but given the fact that 2024 is almost over and Insomniac has yet to acknowledge its existence, it’s possible that the spin-off may be delayed to 2026, if not canceled outright.

Bend Studios' Next Game, a New Open World IP With Multiplayer Elements

Bend Studio’s next title is also likely to make an appearance of some sort in 2025. The last release from the Oregon-based developer wasDays Gone, the divisive open-world zombie game that gained a cult following among fans despite its mixed critical reception. Since it will soon be six years since the launch ofDays Gonein April 2019, Bend Studio could realistically be ready to ship its next title in the coming months. While details on said title are scant, the company has revealed in the past that the project its currently working on isa new IP with an open-world settingand multiplayer elements. This game may employ a live service business model, but it’s hard to say for certain.

Haven Studios' Debut Game, the PvP Heist Shooter Fairgames

Speaking of live service titles, the PvP heist shooterFairgamescould be released next year as well. This game serves as the debut project for Haven Studios, a new PlayStation first-party developer that was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2022.Fairgameswas announced with a brief CGI trailerduring the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase with no gameplay or release date to accompany it. Although Sony has yet to reveal a launch window for the upcoming PS5 and PC title, a 2025 debut for the game seems likely, especially considering that Haven Studios has been working on the heist shooter since 2021. However, due to the mixed first impressions towardsFairgamesand the failure of fellow PlayStation GAAS titleConcord, Sony may want to delay the game to 2026 or beyond to avoid a launch as disastrous as that of the defunct hero FPS.

Bluepoint Games' Next Game, an Original Project

Bluepoint Games is another studio under Sony Interactive Entertainment that hasn’t been active for quite a while. The company is known for its work on remakes, remasters, and ports and its last project, the critically-acclaimedDemon’s Soulsremake, was released in 2020 as a launch title for the PlayStation 5. In the last four years,Bluepoint has been quietly working on its next game, which, the developer revealed, will be the first original project it’s ever made. Given how much time has passed since the release ofDemon’s Souls, it doesn’t seem far-fetched to expect this unannounced title to launch in 2025.

PlayStation May Have a Lot of Surprises Up Its Sleeve for 2025

Santa Monica Studio’s Next Game, a New IP Led by Cory Barlog

Like Bluepoint, Santa Monica Studio may also be delving into uncharted territories with its next game. Ever since the esteemed developer releasedGod of War: Ragnarokin 2022, rumors regarding the company’s upcoming projects have circulated on the internet. In addition to a newGoWgame,Santa Monica Studio is reportedly working on a new intellectual propertyhelmed byGod of War(2018) director Cory Barlog, which is said to have entered development in 2019. The last time the studio released a non-GoWgame was 2001’sKinetica, so if this is true, this unannounced title will be the first original IP from the California-based developer in over 20 years. While a 2025 launch for Santa Monica Studio’s next game may be a bit too optimistic, it’s still fairly plausible.

Sony-Published Third-Party Games, Convallaria and Lost Soul Aside

In addition to its first-party releases, Sony has entered into publishing agreements with a couple of third-party developers, as is typical for the company. At the moment, the only upcoming PlayStation-published third-party games that have been announced so far areLost Soul AsideandConvallaria. Both of these titles are part of Sony’s China Hero Project, an initiative that funds new projects from independent Chinese developers. The former of the two games,Lost Soul Aside, is a single-player action RPG for PS5 and PC. The studio behind the title showed offnew footage of the game as recently as July of this year, so it seems like it’s primed for a 2025 release. The multiplayer PS4/5 third-person shooterConvallaria, however, has gone dark since 2022, but it could still make a surprise appearance at aPlayStationshowcase next year.
