Sega and Sonic Team have revealed new art forSonic X Shadow Generations, which teases a new villain that will be a part of Shadow’s story campaign. On top of being a remaster of the originalSonic Generations,Sonic X Shadow Generationsfeatures a new adventure starring the franchise’s iconic red-and-black rival. InShadow Generations, Shadow the Hedgehog will have to contend with a brand-new threat thanks to the Time Eater revisiting his painful past and confronting some of his old enemies.
Previews ofShadow Generationsshowcased some of the villains that Shadow will need to contend with, such as the Biolizard fromSonic Adventure 2,Metal Overlord fromSonic Heroes, and Black Doom fromShadow the Hedgehog.Black Doom was the leader of the Black Arms alien race and Shadow’s father, who was promptly killed at the end of the game and hasn’t made a re-appearance until now. A new villain is also set to appear inShadow Generations, who may also have connections to Shadow’s alien bloodline.
A new piece of key art was released by Sega on the officialSonic the HedgehogTwitter account to promoteSonic X Shadow Generations. In this new visual, Sonic and Shadow are seen facing off against the villains of their respective stories, with Sonic on the left and Shadow on the right. The most striking part of this art is the character shown on Shadow’s side. While fans can recognize the Time Eater staring at Sonic, the villain on Shadow’s side is a sphere surrounded by a ring with multiple eyes and tentacles. This is the first time this character has ever been shown to fans, and some have theories about who this new villain is and hisconnection to Shadow the Hedgehog.
Shadow Generations Features a New Villain That Looks Like Doom’s Eye
The most prevalent theory is that this will be one ofBlack Doom’s new forms inShadow Generationsand possibly the final boss of the campaign. The alt text of the image says Shadow is walking towards a “monstrosity” that resembles Doom’s Eye, one of Black Doom’s forms inShadow the HedgehogandShadow Generations, which is the reason why fans believe it is connected to the character. Due to its spherical shape, fans theorize that this is the result of Black Doom merging with the Black Comet, the Black Arms' alien home world, or even the Black Comet itself coming to life. Other fans joked that Black Doom is a “biblically accurate angel” due to the monster’s appearance.
Shadow Generationsis keen on exploring the titular character’s connection to Black Doom and the Black Arms as seen with the Doom Powers trailer, which showed off a variety ofShadow’s new alien abilities. Fans are excited to see what new Black Arms loreSonic X Shadow Generationswill provide, as it’s an element that hasn’t been brought up since Shadow’s spin-off game.
