Summary
Some customers who purchased the exclusivePlayStation 5 Pro30th Anniversary Edition are reportedly seeing their orders canceled with little explanation. ThePlayStation 5 Prohas already been stirring up controversy in the gaming community due to its high price point, and these canceled orders are causing a few dedicated fans to declare their intent to give up on the console maker.
Set to launch on November 21, the limited-edition 30th Anniversary Collection, which includes PlayStation 5 Pro consoles and controllers with a special gray color scheme mimicking the original PlayStation, went up for pre-order on September 26. Only 12,300 console units were produced, and thePS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition consoles immediately sold outwithin seconds, with some scalpers asking as much as £10,000 (or nearly $13,400 USD) on auction sites like eBay.
Unfortunately, some gaming enthusiasts who were lucky enough to secure one of these consoles are now reporting that their orders have been canceled without an explanation, despite calls to customer support. One of these potential customers, who goes by the Reddit handle Routine-Impact5129 and resides in Germany, reported that having seemingly successfully purchased the console, they were sent an email stating that theorder for the PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition Consolehad been canceled, though the purchaser denies that they canceled it themselves. It seems there may have been some problem with processing the payment, as the email reportedly stated that the payment method did not work and the user’s account reportedly listed the transaction reversal as a fraud cancelation. At least two other people in the same thread reported having similar problems.
PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition Customers Having Their Orders Canceled
It’s not yet clear how widespread the cancelation issue has become. However, at least one other PlayStation fan hasmissed their chance to get a PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition consoledue to a fraud alert, as their bank flagged the legitimate attempted purchase as potential fraud while they were away on vacation.
The official PlayStation website states that canceled orders cannot be restored, so it seems likely that none of these unlucky customers will be able to get their hands on the exclusive console due to its limited-run stock immediately selling out. The console’s standard edition is still set for release on November 7, with54 games announced to be getting PS5 Pro upgradesalready and more potentially on the way. While the price point of $700 is scaring away some potential players, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the prices that some scalpers are asking for the 30th Anniversary Edition.
