Summary
SomePokemon GOplayers have recently taken to social media to voice their displeasure with the ongoing Legendary Heroes event. Specifically, their grievances are aimed at some of thePokemon GOtrading challenges that are part of the promotion.
TheLegendary Heroes event kicked off inPokemon GOon Thursday, September 26. Completing it requires players to pick one of two paths themed afterPokemon Sword and Shield. Each comes with its own collection of catch and trade challenges.
Some Pokemon GO Players Want Fewer Trading Challenges
A vocal section of the game’s fandom has now taken issue with the latter, arguing that Niantic’s events are placing too much emphasis on trading. “They’ve been requiring trades more often,” wrote Reddit user SpazsAvatar in a recent post, asking the developer to “please stop doing this.” The fan has specifically taken aim at theShield Path Trade Collection Challenge inPokemon GO, which requires players to obtain Swirlix, Gothita, Seedot, and Scraggy through trading with others. Since the game doesn’t support remote trading, this effectively poses an insurmountable challenge for rural players, or others who are unlucky enough not to live in an area wherePokemon GOis popular.
“I am now completely cut off from doing any of this research because Niantic for some reason thinks we all have tons of close friends or family that play with us,” SpazsAvatar explained. Their complaint amassed over 3,000 upvotes and promptly ended up on the front page of the game’s largest subreddit in late September 2024, indicating that plenty ofPokemon GOplayersshare their frustrations.
Pokemon GO Remote Trades Would Solve Some Current Player Complaints
The chances of Niantic doing anything about these grievances are dubious. Althoughplayer feedback does occasionally effect change inPokemon GO, the game has always been designed as a highly social experience, and emphasizing trading challenges aligns with that philosophy. That could also be the reason whyPokemon GOhasn’t yet implemented remote trading, in spite of the fact that fans have been asking for it for years. The calls for this feature to be added last intensified during the pandemic, when Niantic made some concessions that allowed people to play the game without moving too much, including remote raids, an interaction distance increase, and specialized events.

Even if the developer wanted to act on these newly surfaced complaints, the company most likely doesn’t have nearly enough time to do anything about the ongoing Legendary Heroes event, which is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, October 1, at 8pm local time. Those lucky enough to have friends to trade with can perform Special Trades at a 50% Stardust discount for the duration of the event.
