Summary

Bungie announced it has big plans for September 9 as the studio is not only planning to reveal its plans for the future ofDestiny 2, but also celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the franchise with an in-game event. Following the release of The Final Shape, which has givenDestiny 2a major boost, things have not gone to plan as Bungie experienced a second round of major layoffs. With reports and rumors that Bungie is scaling down the size of future content, fans have started to worry about the future of the game.

What’s next for the Destiny franchise has been a big topic of discussion among the community, as the episodic structure hasn’t always been the smoothest of transitions from the previous seasonal model. For one, players grew tired of the heavy-timegating of story content within a three-week cycle, followed by another three weeks of waiting. As it stands,Bungie is changing how it delivers its story content with Episode Revenant, though fans are still wondering what else is coming down the road in terms of meaningful content. WhileBungie teased the future ofDestiny 2, the studio appears to be ready to finally have that conversation with players.

In the weeklyblog post, Bungie began with a couple of big announcements. Starting at 8am PT on September 9, Bungie is finally preparing to discuss its goals and plans for the future of Destiny 2. Fans can expect to see a new developer insight blog featuring Destiny 2 Game Director Tyson Green and Narrative Director Alison Lührs to discuss the game’s future and goals. Bungie warned that this is intended to be the start of a conversation intended to take place over the next few months, so fans should temper their expectations a bit as this likely won’t be a massive reveal for themysterious Codename: Frontiers. However, the post does reiterate the studio’s commitment toDestiny 2and that it’s just getting started.

Destiny 2 Fans Can Celebrate the 10th Anniversary and Learn About The Game’s Future

Alongside theDestiny 2future conversation, Bungie also confirmed the previously rumored10th Anniversary event for theDestinyfranchiseby announcing a small in-game celebration starting next week. While this likely means the weekly reset, which happens every Tuesday, fans will be getting more details on Monday, September 9 through a new blog post. Bungie has teased free Legendary armor, a new Title to chase, Bungie Rewards, and more.

Alongside its long-term plans, Bungie has also started to lift the veil on Episode Revenant. Previously revealed as a scorn-heavy chapter dealing with the return of The Fanatic, Bungie’s latest blog also revealed the first of many expected gameplay and sandbox changes. Recent feedback has indicated players wanted a change to how long it takes for specific raid and dungeon content to appear within the weekly rotator. Starting on October 8,Bungie is adding double raids and dungeons toDestiny 2, essentially cutting down on the wait from 8 weeks to only 4. In addition, Warlord’s Ruin is joining the Dungeon queue, giving players a better opportunity to farm for weapons like Indebted Kindness and Buried Bloodline.
