Summary
Activision has started promoting the 25th anniversary ofTony Hawk’s Pro Skater, fueling anticipation that big announcements could be on the horizon. The originalTony Hawk’s Pro Skaterhit store shelves on June 10, 2025, and became an instant classic. The critically-acclaimed skateboarding game sold millions of copies and spawned a hugely successful franchise.
TheTony Hawk’s Pro Skatersequels took the series to even greater heights, withTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2considered by many to be one of the best video games of all time.Pro Skater 3and4are held in similar high regard, as are theUndergroundduology. Unfortunately, it was after theTony Hawk’s Undergroundgames that the franchise started to falter a bit.American Wasteland, while great, didn’t reach quite the same heights as its predecessors.Project 8was another step down, as wasProving Ground, withPro Skater 5’s abysmal receptionputting the franchise on hiatus. Activision eventually remade the first two games in a single package calledTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, but the series has been quiet since that collection dropped in 2020.
Now there is new hope that a newTony Hawk’s Pro Skatervideo game project of some description will be announced. As spotted by Push Square, Activision has updated the variousTony Hawk’s Pro Skatersocial channels with new artwork, including a fresh logo for the series' 25th anniversary. Now, this is by no means a surefire sign that a newTony Hawkgame is being announced, but it does mean that fans will want to keep an eye on September 29 just in case. After all, what’s the point of celebrating the anniversary if there’s no product to promote?
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Gets New Logo for 25th Anniversary
Even if there’s no newTony Hawkvideo game in development, many fans would jump at the chance to revisit the classics. While updated versions of the first twoPro Skatergames are available, the otherTony Hawktitles are trapped on older consoles. This means fans can’t play beloved games likeTony Hawk’s Undergroundwithout digging out their sixth-gen video game consoles, which is highly inconvenient. The fact thatall theTony Hawkgames use licensed soundtracksmakes it tricky to bring them to new platforms, but maybe some kind of agreement can be reached.
The latest word onPro Skater 3 + 4is that the project was rejected by Activision. Apparently, Activision wanted Vicarious Visions, now known as Blizzard Albany, to focus onCall of Dutyinstead. However, Xbox owns Activision now, and so maybe the new leadership has expressed interest in revisiting the franchise. If so, September 29 could be a huge day forTony Hawkfans, but if not, it will be interesting to see what exactly Activision has in store for the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration.
