Summary
PlayStationhas announced a new technical presentation for September 10. The newly confirmed event is likely to see the company officially unveil thePS5 Pro.
ThePS5 Pro rumor millhas been running at full speed since the start of 2024. Multiple insiders have previously suggested that Sony’s mid-generation console upgrade is planned to hit the market during the 2024 holiday season. This purported time frame would imply that the company is planning to unveil the much-rumored device sooner rather than later.
PlayStation Announces Presentation Focused on PS5 and New Gaming Tech
As it turns out, Sony has just announced a technical presentation that will be broadcast via the PlayStation YouTube channel on September 10. The livestream, which is scheduled to kick off at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET, will be hosted byPS5 lead architect Mark Cerny, who also led the design efforts on the PS Vita and PS4. Sony said that the event will focus on the PS5 and gaming technology innovation. Given the nature of the presentation and Cerny’s involvement, the PS5 Pro announcement seems to be well within the realm of possibility for tomorrow.
The likelihood of new hardware being unveiled at the event seems all the greater in light of several recent reportssuggesting the PS5 Pro will be announced in September 2024. The console’s rumored reveal window closely matches that of the PS4 Pro, which was announced in early September 2016 before hitting the market two months later.
PS5 Pro Pricing and Availability Info May Remain Unconfirmed for a While Yet
Sony said that the September 10 livestream will be approximately nine minutes long. Between that and the fact that the company labeled the broadcast as a “technical presentation,” fans shouldn’t expect much in the way ofPS5 Pro pricingor availability information. Cerny is instead more likely to talk about the new technology included in the upcoming console, such as its rumored GPU upgrade that’s expected to make it roughly as powerful as the Radeon RX 7700 XT graphics card.
Although prior reports suggested that the PS5 Pro will retain the AMD Zen 2 CPU from its predecessor, the console is rumored to support a high-frequency mode that would increase its processor’s clock speed. More efficient audio compression and ray tracing improvements are also said to be part of the package, together with a system storage increase. As is the case with the PS5 and its Slim variant, the PS5 Pro is expected to be offered both with and without a disc drive. On that note, consumers will likely be given the option to buy an optical drive separately and insert it into the console, thanks to its modular chassis that was first introduced with the PS5 Slim.
PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition
The PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition offers the same amazing graphics and sound as the original PS5 console in a more compact design. Small enough to fit into more entertainment centers, this console makes no compromises with stellar 4K gaming performance, Ray Tracing, and 120 Hz refresh rates. This version of the PS5 Slim without a disc drive includes a generous 1TB of storage, expandable up to 4 TB with separately purchased SSDs.
