As a loyal fan of thehorrorgenre, I like checking out the latest releases and look forward toMike Flanagan’s reboot ofThe Exorcist. But my all-time favorite horror franchise isScream, and I’m excited forScream 7.While I want to learn the new Ghostface’s identity and hopefully see some fan-favorite characters reprise their smart roles,I’m most looking forward to seeing one particular legacy character again.
As the opening scene is an undeniably significant part of eachScreammovie, I’m not the only one hoping thatScream 7’s opening is particularly epic. But whileScreammovies typically have brand new characters in the opening sequences, I think that should change withScream 7.
Summary
Which Character Needs To Be In The Scream 7 Opening Scene?
I won’t be fully satisfied withScream 7unless Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is in the opening scene. This seems like the best way forthe horror sequel to bring Sidney backafter she didn’t appear inScream 6. I want Sidney to have spent her time away strength training and getting ready to fight Ghostface, and I think it would be fascinating to watch them go head-to-head.
SinceSidney was meant to kill Ghostface in theScream 4opening, it would make sense to bring back some version of this idea. Instead of Sidney killing Ghostface, though,Sidney should scare the killer off. This would still be effective since it would prove to them they can’t mess with this final girl. It would also create some mystery and make audiences wonder where Ghostface went and when they’ll be back. Perhaps Ghostface visits Sidney at her house or where she works. The possibilities seem endless since fans don’t know any details about her life right now.
If Sidney was featured in theScream 7opening scene,it could be as funny as it is unnerving.Sidney may have a family now, but she will still hopefully be the same clever and sarcastic character she has always been. I want to see her crack jokes while fighting Ghostface since this is who she is at her core.
While I’m not sure what Neve Campbell thinks about Sidney appearing in the opening sequence ofScream 7, she loves playing this iconic character. She definitely wants Sidney to stay as determined as ever to survive. In 2022,Campbell toldThe Hollywood Reporterthat she doesn’t think Sidney should be a victim. Since Sidney is physically strong, it would be fun to see her in the opening scene, and it would also ensure that she keeps fighting no matter what. WhetherScream 7happens during Christmasor not, Sidney needs to be the same tough character she has been since day one. Campbell said:
“I’ve had a lot of people come up to me in the past and just say that she inspired them in some way or helped them in their lives in some way, which is not what you normally expect when you’re performing in a horror film. I certainly would hate to see Sidney fall. I think it would be the wrong message.”
Inside Scream’s Iconic And Famous Opening Scene
I can’t think aboutwhat the opening scene ofScream 7could look likewithout reflecting on the opening sequence of the originalScreammovie from 1996.Drew Barrymore’s character Casey Becker plans to enjoy some popcorn while watching a horror movie when Ghostface calls her. After a brief quiz about the genre, Ghostface reveals that he will kill her, so a terrifying chase begins.
What Other Horror Movies Has Drew Barrymore Starred In?
WhileScream 3doesn’t have a particularly entertaining opening scene, the original is well-crafted and perfectly paced. In an oral history ofScreamforThe Ringer,Drew Barrymore shared a unique way that she made herself cry while running around trying to escape from Ghostface. The intensity of her emotions makes this opening scene work so well, along with the comments on the horror movie genre and the memorable phone call she gets from Ghostface. Barrymore said she and director Wes Craven crafted a tale that helped her cry. She said:
“I was like, ‘I never want fake tears, I will come up with a mechanism with which to really make me cry. I will run around until I’m hyperventilating.’ He and I had this secret story. We would just talk about it every time cause it just made me cry every time I thought about it.”
