Players can research and create a variety of equippable items inSatisfactory. This includes the parachute, an early back item you can get from the mycelia research tree in the MAM.

When you equip the parachute inSatisfactory, you can slow your falling speed significantly, and you can keep moving forward at a rapid pace. This lets you avoid falling damage, and it means you can fly from one island or pillar to another, potentially reaching otherwise unreachable locations. And while you can get a jetpackfrom a milestone unlock, a special physics exploit means the parachute is never completely obsolete.

How to Unlock the Parachute

Once you get access to the MAM research table, you can unlock the parachute item relatively early in the game. It’s three research nodes deep into the Mycelia tree. Here’s what you need:

If you’re having trouble finding enough mycelia, you can get plenty of this materialby harvesting giant mushrooms and fungi with the chainsaw. These include the large hollow spheres you can find north of the grasslands starting location, and the blue mushrooms found in caves.

How to Use (and Exploit) the Parachute

To use a parachute inSatisfactory, you first need to equip it. From the inventory screen, you can drag the parachute to your character’s back slot, or you can double-click on it to equip it automatically.

Once you have your parachute ready, jump into the air or fall off a ledge and hold down the jump button (default space). The moment you start descending, your parachute will deploy. At this point, you can take your finger off the jump button. If you want to start falling quickly again, you must press the crouch button (default C). And if you want to catch your fall just before hitting the ground, press the jump button again.

While your parachute is open, you can continue to move in all directions, and you can even get a sprint boost if you move forwards. Your movement is harder to control compared to when you’re on the ground, but it’s easier than trying to change direction when jumping.

The parachute also has a special exploit, one that’s demonstrated in the video above. If you move forward at full speed and hit a ramp, the parachute will let you fly upwards instead of landing. This means you can gain altitude instead of always dropping, and you can even use itto reach areas the jetpack can’t climb to.

This exploit was apparently toned down for the 1.0Satisfactoryrelease, but you can still use it on many natural and artificial surfaces. This includes the four-meter foundation ramp, along with certain cliff sides that are otherwise too vertical to climb. This exploit isn’t the only way to reach high places (you can build foundation ramps anywhere on the map), but it can be fun to see how far up you can climb using a tool that normally only lets you descend.
