Yeun was rumored to play Sentry inThunderbolts*. Although there was no official announcement about the role he was supposed to portray in the movie, his good friend, Robert Kirkman, the creator ofThe Walking DeadandInvincible,previously said theBeefstar went for a costume fitting for Sentry. However, Yeun had to leaveThunderbolts*due to a schedule conflict. The filming dates were pushed back to the Hollywood strikes, and he had other prior commitments. Despite leavingThunderbolts*,Yeun expressed interest in makingMarvelmovies, and he might get what he wanted.
MyTimeToShineHello, a movie insider and scooper, claimed thatYeun was being considered to play another MCU character,ComicBookMoviereported. However, there are no details about the still undisclosed role. Marvel has been working on theX-Menreboot, so it’s possible that he could be joining the said movie. Some fans want him to play Beast, the genius scientist who had considerable contributions toX-MenandAvengers. However, Marvel is also reportedly focusing on the Hulk family and might cast Yeun as Amadeus Cho, aka Brawn, a version of Hawk from the Marvel comics.
Yeun confirmed hiscasting inThunderboltsin an interview withVarietyin January. He was apologetic about leaving the project and admitted he had difficulty informing the production about his decision. He was forced to leaveThunderboltsbecause its production halted in May due to the WGA strike and had not begun filming until February this year. They wrapped up filming in June. Unfortunately, Yeun had other projects, so he had to let go ofThunderbolts*. “It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out,” Yeun shared. Nevertheless, he was thankful for the opportunity and even said, “I wanna do a Marvel movie.”
Many were sad about Yeun leavingThunderbolts*because they were already looking forward to seeing him as Sentry. His departure was even considered asanother blow to Marvel. So, if there’s a chance for him to join the MCU, Marvel Studios will definitely consider it. Also, Yeun was very apologetic about his decision to drop the project and obviously didn’t burn bridges. So, there’s still a way back to return to the MCU should an opportunity arise.
Also, there is no denying that Yeun is a talented actor and he could pull off any character – be it a superhero, villain or anti-hero. Yeun is a brilliant talent and there’s no doubt that he will be an asset if he joins Marvel.
