Summary
A reliable source has indicated that Sony might have more unannouncedPS5exclusives scheduled for release in 2025. The recent announcement of Sucker Punch’sGhost of Yoteihas many PlayStation fans excited about next year, but the coming months could further blow up this anticipation with more tentpole game announcements for thePS5.
The PS5 generation has delivered a lot of compelling exclusive games so far, both from in-house and external studios.Team Asobi’s critically-acclaimedAstro Botis the most recent example of this, but many PlayStation fans are disappointed with Sony’s silence surrounding the tentpole AAA titles from its bigger teams. The gaming giant currently owns 21 development studios but many of them, such as Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Bend Studio, and more, have yet to release a brand-new, full-fledged PS5 exclusive.
Sucker Punch confirmedGhost of Yoteifor 2025during PlayStation’s latest State of Play broadcast, somewhat allaying concerns from fans who wanted to hear from Sony’s bigger first-party studios. However, it seems the company may have more such announcements up its sleeve, as hinted by credible industry insiderShinobi602 on ResetEra. In response to a user listingDeath Stranding 2,Marathon, andGhost of Yoteias the PS5’s first-party lineup for 2025, the insider posted a GIF suggesting “there’s more” that fans don’t know about yet.

It’s worth noting that this doesn’t directly imply more first-party games, as Sony could also have unannounced third-party exclusives ready for 2025. Conversely, a lot of big PlayStation first-party studios have been working on their projects for around four years, such asBluepoint Games' mysterious original title. Considering AAA projects take five to seven years to develop on average, some of PlayStation’s teams might be gearing up to announce their games for a 2025 release in the coming months.
Schedules can always change internally, though, which is likely why Shinobi602 tagged his response with a “maybe.” Still, by sheer virtue of how many PlayStation teams have been chipping away on their projects for several years, it seems plausible that Sony could show off more PS5 first-party exclusives sooner rather than later. As for when and where these tentpole games will be announced, speculation points to another livestream at the end of 2024 as part ofPlayStation’s 30th anniversary celebration, but only time will tell whether this pans out.
PlayStation 5
Sony’s PlayStation 5 is part of the ninth console generation and debuted with a launch lineup that included Demon’s Souls and Astro’s Playroom. The console comes with a Blu-ray disc, although a digital-only edition is also available for a cheaper price.
