Summary
Fans are noticing a small clue that Toys for Bob could be working on a newSpyro the Dragongame. Way before Insomniac Games hit it big withRatchet and ClankandMarvel’s Spider-Man, it released the originalSpyro the Dragonon the first PlayStation console in 1998. The spunky purple dragon quickly stormed his way into gamers’ hearts, spawning several sequels, a reboot series, and theSkylandersspin-off franchise. In 2018, the original Insomniac-developed trilogy was remade and rereleased asSpyro Reignited Trilogyto warm reviews and solid sales figures.
Unfortunately, theSpyroseries hasn’t been as active in the years since theReignited Trilogylaunched, with the dragon mascot’s last appearance being as a DLC guest character inCrash Team Rumblealongside his fawn friend Elora and arch-enemy Ripto. Reportedly, Spyro would have crossed over with Crash once againin the undevelopedCrash Bandicoot 5, but this project would ultimately be canceled after 2020’sCrash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Timefell short of publisher Activision’s sales expectations.
While Crash’s gaming future may be up in the air, there have been rumors of a newSpyro the Dragongame throughout this year, and the Spyro Universe Twitter account recently noticed more potential evidence of such a game being in the works on the officialToys for Bobwebsite. This website was set up afterToys for Bob split off from parent company Activisionin February, and it lists all of the projects the developer worked on. Included in this list is a purple section with a question mark next toCrash Team Rumble, and fans are now wondering if this is supposed to represent an unconfirmedSpyrosequel.
Toys for Bob Website May Be Teasing New Spyro Game
As noted before, there have been plenty of rumors surrounding a newSpyro the Dragongame. A few months after becoming an independent developer, Toys for Bob announced that it had entereda new partnership with Xbox, which now owns the rights to both theSpyroandCrash Bandicootfranchises following its highly publicized acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year. Before that, fans had heard claims of Toys for Bob working on a newSpyrogame with the supposed subtitle ofMystery of the Dragon, which developers were reportedly discussing during PAX East 2024 back in March.
It should be stated that most of these rumors are merely speculation at this point, and Toys for Bob has yet to officially announce its next project under its new partnership with Xbox. However,Spyro the Dragonremains a fondly remembered franchiseamong PS1-era gamers, and a social media post from the start of the year promised big news for the reptilian mascot in 2024.
