Summary
Images of what looks like the upcomingNintendo Switchsuccessor console have seemingly been leaked online. Back in May, Nintendo finally confirmed months of rumors and speculation by officially announcing that it is working on a new console to follow the successfulNintendo Switch, and that it would be revealed in full sometime between now and March 2025.
Many believe that the next piece of hardware will retain the console/handheld hybrid functionality that helped make the Switch one of Nintendo’s most financially successful systems of all time. More recently, it was claimed that the tentatively namedSwitch 2 will have two screens, which could pave the way for DS and 3DS games to be playable on the new device. On the other hand, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has hinted that the Switch follow-up won’t be too much of a departure from its predecessor in terms of overall design.
Earlier this week, leaked images of what appears to be a mock-up of the next Nintendo console were shared onReddit, having originally appeared on a Chinese social media site. Said images depict a handheld system similar to the existing Switch, albeit with upgrades like a larger 8-inch screen, magnetic Joy-Cons, and USB-C ports on both the top and bottom of the console. According to these images, the Switch 2 will still feature a pair ofdetachable Joy-Con controllersthat connect to a touchscreen, but the SL/SR buttons and front-facing player LEDs have been revised, among other changes.
Leaked Nintendo Images Hint at a New Console Similar to the Switch
According to the post these images came from, theNintendo Switch 2 will have 12GB of RAM(an upgrade from the original’s 4GB), HDMI 2.1 support, and a beefed-up 256GB of internal storage, much more than the old Switch’s 32GB. While these images have not been officially verified by Nintendo and may not even be legitimate,VGCclaims that they do match up with what one of its sources says the gaming juggernaut told its partners to expect from its next blockbuster console.
It should be pointed out that this source reportedly hasn’t seen the final Nintendo Switch 2 system, but these leaked designs do line up with some of the many rumors that have surrounded the new console. While leakers don’t expect thenew Nintendo console to be revealed this month, it may not be too much longer until fans see this new system for themselves, assuming that Nintendo is keeping true to its previous claims of revealing the Switch 2 before the end of the current fiscal year.
