Risk of Rain 2is a game centered around mechanics that keeps it replayable. It hasa lot of survivorsand items that those survivors can obtain in multiple stages. All these factors combine to create a holistic experience that feels unique every time. However, there is an additional mechanic that can keep the game fresh for players, Artifacts.
Requiringsecret codes to unlock, Artifacts can be activated at the start of each run to bring in additional modifiers to the run. These generally aren’t helpful, though there are some exceptions, and tend to make the run more difficult in one way or another. There isn’t any limit on the amount of artifacts a player can activate at one time, and the synergies are quite fun to explore. There are a total of 18 Artifacts, and players can only unlock one artifact at a time.
How to Unlock Artifacts in Risk of Rain 2
The method for unlocking artifacts is fairly simple, all things considered. First, gain access to the fifth stage of the run. Both Sky Meadow and Helminth Hatcher, a new fifth environmentintroduced in Seekers of the Storm DLC, contain a compound generator that consists of a large teleporter hooked up to a computer, with an input method next to it.
In Sky Meadows, the compound generator is found underneath the main island, while it is found near the top of the map in Helminth Hatchery. Interact with the 9 switches to cycle between four shapes, and input the correct sequence to create a portal to Bulwark’s Ambry.
How to Complete Bulwark’s Ambry
For each artifact, the Bulwark’s Ambry challenge is slightly different. Bulwark’s Ambry is a hidden realm that contains an Artifact Reliquary in the middle, surrounded by floating cuboid platforms. Artifact Key,a gold boss item, will spawn in front of the Reliquary. Pick it up and interact with the structure to start the challenge.
Once the challenge is initiated, enemies will start to spawn. Each mob has a chance to drop another Artifact Key. Pick these up and interact with the Reliquary to reduce its HP until it dies. In its place, the artifact that the player inputted the code for will appear, finishing the challenge, and applying that artifact’s effect to the run. Each challenge applies the conditions of the artifact the player is trying to unlock, and if the player dies during the trial the artifact will not be unlocked.
Even if you’ve already unlocked an artifact, you can input its code and challenge it again. You won’t get anything new from the experience, but it can be used as a way to activate an artifact in the middle of a run. After completing the stage, a portal to the first stage will appear, putting players back into the normal cycle.
Friendly fire is enabled for both survivors and monsters alike.
