Risk of Rain 2hasa lot of itemsthat are organized into seven categories. White colored normal items, green colored rare items, red colored legendary items, golden colored boss items, purple colored void items, golden colored equipments, and blue-colored lunar items. Normal items are the most common, rare ones are, well, rare.Legendary items are extremely hard to findand can drop from any chest. However, golden boss items have a small chance to drop from teleporter bosses when you defeat them. Void items are unique versions of normal items, while equipment items are powerful items that usually give additional abilities to the player.
Where other items give the player additional abilities here and there, making the player more powerful, blue lunar items tend to change the dynamic of the gameplay entirely. They have one beneficial effect and one negative effect, making the player decide whether the power they get is worth the cost of getting it. These items cost lunar coins and can be found in lunar pods on each map — and in the Bazaar Between Time.
Double your health… BUT halve your speed.
How To Unlock
Enable Survivors of the Void
While it might be true that the best defense is a good offense, it doesn’t hurt to have a large health pool to mitigate the negative effects of enemy attacks. The Stone Flux Pauldron directly doubles the player’s health, making them much tankier than normal. However, the downside of the Pauldron is that it halves movement speed as well. This might seem like a big issue in a game that prioritizes mobility and dodging over tanking, but it can be mitigated with the right items.
A few stacks of Energy Drink or Paul’s Goat Hoof will let players play the game as normal. The Stone Flux Pauldron’s effects are applied after calculating the buff from other items, but the movement buff items are good enough that players won’t feel the downsides of this lunar item too much. Importantly, additional stacks of this item have diminishing downsides, making it an attractive target for players who want to increase their health to the utmost, such as someoneusing the False Son survivorin the Seekers of the Storm expansion.
Kill 15 boss monsters in a single run.
TheHeretic is a secret survivorinRisk of Rain 2that cannot be selected at the start of the run. Instead, players need the Heresy lunar item set, collecting four items that change the abilities of the champion they are playing. To play as the Heretic, players need Visions of Heresy, Hooks of Heresy, Strides of Heresy, and Essence of Heresy. These items replace the base abilities of the equipped survivor, i.e., the primary, secondary, utility, and special ability. Players can also equip any of these items individually if they want one to replace one specific ability.
Visions of Heresy gives the player a primary that fires a flurry of tracking projectiles that detonate after a short delay. The secondary gives the player a projectile that deals a large amount of damage for three seconds before exploding and rooting enemies. The utility item makes the player intangible for 3 seconds, gives them additional movement speed, and heals them for almost half of their HP. Lastly, the special ability, Ruin, detonates ruin stacks, dealing 300% damage and additional damage based on the number of ruin stacks in total. Dealing damage to an enemy stacks Ruin on them.
No Requirement
Considering therandom nature of the lootplayers can get in the game, there’s no guarantee that they will get any good healing items to sustain their health in a particular run. This is a big problem since the natural health regeneration is not a lot, making fighting enemies much more dangerous if players don’t have any healing abilities. However, the regeneration of shields is significantly faster than health, making it a good alternative if they can’t find a way to increase their health regeneration.
Transcendence takes this concept to the extreme, converting all but 1 HP into easily regeneratable shields. This increases the overall survivability of the player by a lot. However, it renders most healing items useless, since the player only has 1 HP anyway. Lacking any good health recovery items, this is the best option for someone looking to last longer in their run. With the right amount of mobility, the player can become almost unkillable. This item also makes malachite enemies a walk in the park, since shield regeneration isn’t affected — only health.
Lunar Equipment
Effect
Gain a massive boost to ALL stats. Chance to gain an affliction that reduces ALL stats.
Discover and enter three unique portals.
One of the few Lunar equipment items in the game, Spinel Tonic is one of the best items in the early part of a run. When activated, the equipment gives the player a large boost to all stats, making them run faster, hit harder, heal better, and take more damage before dying. The only downside to this equipment is that there’s a small chance to get the Tonic Affliction, an unremovable item that reduces all stats by 5% per stack.
However, if theplayer manages to make a buildaround the Spinel Tonic such that it is always active, they won’t have to worry about the downside at all. The cooldown on this equipment is 60s, but with the Gesture of the Drowned, it is reduced to 30s. The equipment remains active for 20s, meaning players will only need one gesture of the drowned and 3 Fuel Cells to keep this equipment active at all times.
Utility
Increase the speed of Teleporter charging… BUT reduce the size of the zone.
In 4 consecutive stages, don’t leave the teleporter radius until it is fully charged.
Nothing’s worse than clearing a stage early on and waiting for the teleporter clearance percentage to slowly trickle up, one point at a time. In total, the teleporter takes 90 seconds if the player never leaves it. However, if the player has a good build, they should be able to finish off the teleporter boss much faster than that. And the other enemies don’t pose much of a threat either.
In this scenario, the teleporter’s long charging period is a waste of time and a source of boredom in an otherwise fun game. That’s where Focused Convergence comes in. This item increases the rate of charging by 30% but halves the size of the teleporter zone. If the player has a successful run, this won’t be an issue at all, leaving this item without any downsides. If the playerisn’t able to quickly kill the boss, having Focused Convergence or not having it doesn’t make a difference either way.
Dramatically reduce Equipment cooldown… BUT it automatically activates.
Kill 20 Hermit Crabs by chasing them off the edge of the map.
Fuel Cells are a great tool for players. They let them use equipment much more often and effectively halve the cooldown time, no matter the equipment. Further stacks of the item make the effective cooldown time of the equipment that much shorter. However, there is another item in the game that has a similar effect: theGesture of the Drowned.
This item directly reduces the cooldown time of equipment by 50%, and each new stack reduces it by 15%. However, the downside is that the Gesture of the Drowned also forcefully activates your equipment every time the cool down runs out. With a mixture of Gestures of the Drowned and Fuel Cells, players can make a build where their equipment is always active with no downtime at all, creating an incredibly fun playstyle regardless of the equipment they have.
