Gunfire Games’Remnant 2is setting up to release its third and final DLC expansion, The Dark Horizon, on September 24. Similar to the other two DLC expansions forRemnant 2, The Dark Horizon brings with it a host of changes in addition to some new story content and a new overworld area, including a Boss Rush mode that’s free to all players regardless of whether they purchase the DLC. Game Rant recently had the opportunity to attend a hands-off preview of The Dark Horizon, and one of the more exciting aspects is the new Archetype thatRemnant 2’s final expansion introduces: The Warden.
The Warden presents an exciting shake-up totheRemnant 2metathanks to how the class is designed to synergize with every other Archetype the game has. Better yet, those who enjoy playing as The Engineer are getting a new class tailor-made to dual-wield with the Archetype. With a versatile set of skills, each revolving around the use of a drone and the ability to provide valuable buffs to allies, getting to access and play as The Warden is one of the major draws to The Dark Horizon DLC.
Remnant 2’s Warden Archetype is All About its Support Drone
Each ofRemnant 2’s Archetypes is balanced to fit into a specific niche in combat, whether that be through providing support, dealing AOE damage, taking enemies out from range, or other specializations. The Warden Archetype is no different, joining the ranks of bothThe Handlerand The Summoner as one of the small handful of classes built around summoning an AI ally to the battlefield. In The Warden’s case, this ally is a support drone, and its utility in battle immediately catapults The Warden to being one of the more exciting Archetypes in the game.
The Warden’s drone has three available modes that provide Shields, help out with Heals, or support the player in combat. Each of these behaves as one might expect, with the Shield mode granting a protective damage barrier to the Warden and any allies, the Heal mode restoring health, and the Combat mode targeting any threats within the detectable range. Players can even send their drone to monitor allies, providing them with these various advantages instead. The drone’s versatility makes The Warden an ideal class for solo play inRemnant 2, but that these abilities help out allies too makes The Warden indispensable in the title’s nailbitingsoulslike co-op.
The Warden’s Suite of Abilities Is One of Remnant 2: The Dark Horizon’s Highlights
The inclusion of The Warden inRemnant 2’s final DLCis a major draw to anyone who had been considering picking up the expansion, as the class' versatility and ability to synergize with other Archetypes positions it to become a major force in the game’s meta. Much more than just its support drone, though, The Warden has an impressive set of abilities that includes a useful Prime Perk and an Archetype Trait that are both suited to players that plan on kitting out the Warden with a defensive build. Players can expect the following from these abilities:
On top of that, the Warden also has a special gun called the “Repair Tool,” which comes with a mod slot and effectively beams opponents. What makes it special is that it can detect who it is shooting, dealing damage to enemies but healing allies and even recharging the drone. It can also go a long way in providing defenses for other class abilities like the Egineer’s turret.
Remnant 2’s ability to be a fully-fleshed out experience in either solo or co-op play comes down to the design and implementation of its different classes, and theWarden Archetypeembodies this by being yet another flexible option for players. Thanks to its defensive capabilities and a useful AI companion in the support drone, the Warden looks like it might be a great choice for solo players that becomes even more essential as a member of a fireteam playing any number of support roles.
