According to Twitter user TezFunz2, Rockstar Games unintentionally included some metadata forRed Dead Redemptionon PC with the September 17 Rockstar Games Launcher update. TezFunz2 also claimed thatRed Dead Redemptionapplication data was added to Steam’s internal database (via SteamDB) early on September 17. However, the data remains privatized from public view at the time of writing. The Rockstar Games Launcher update coincided withGrand Theft Auto Online’s inclusion of the BattlEye anti-cheatsoftware on PC.
In response to TezFunz2’s post, other users shared corroborating evidence of folders named afterRed Dead RedemptionandGrand Theft Auto 5’s current-gen release, with screenshots as proof of the changes made. Shortly after theRed Dead Redemptionmetadata folder was discovered by social media users, Rockstar Games quietly removed it from the launcher. Although rumors surrounding apotential PC version ofRed Dead Redemptionhave persisted since the game was ported to the PS4 and Switch in 2023, the new metadata discovery may be one of the strongest arguments that a PC port is in the works.
