What Is Known About The Neagley Spin-Off Series?

Frances Neagley is a fan favorite in theReacheruniverse, so the reports suggesting a spin-off centered on her character was in the works were met with delight. The decision was a no-brainer from a business point of view, asReacherwas Prime Video’s worldwide number one title across both series and movies in 2023, during the second season’s premiere weekend. In addition to this, Reacher’s global audience grew 50% between seasons in the first three days after the sophomore season’s debut on June 06, 2025.

The spin-off series will be calledNeagley, and it’ll focus on the former110th Special Investigatorin her role as a corporate security professional, according tosources close to Deadline. Alan Ritchson is also set to appear as a guest star.Reachershowrunner Nick Santora will join forces with Nicholas Wootton, who previously worked onPrison Breakwith him, to develop and act as co-showrunners onNeagley. The spin-off will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance Television, along with CBS Studios, after they took over afterParamount TV’s changes. Lee Child, Don Granger, and Lisa Kussner, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell will join Santora and Wootton as executive producers onNeagleyon behalf of Skydance Television.

Frances Neagley is a key character inReacher, and her importance is highlighted by the fact that she appeared inReacherseason 1, despite not featuring in Lee Child’s bookThe Killing Floor, which provided the basis for the debut season. Neagley returned in season 2, and this time, her character was actually a major part of the book it was based on:Bad Luck and Trouble. She has been established as Reacher’s closest confidante, and for that reason,Neagley will return again inReacherseason 3, and this could lead to future crossovers with theNeagleyspin-off series.

Amazon are currently in the process of turning the Bosch-verse into a television franchise, with the introduction ofRenee Ballard sooner than expectedinBosch: Legacyseason 3, before the cold case investigator gets her own spin-off series. It appears the same structure is being applied toReacher, withNeagley’s appearance in season 3 potentially being a lead in to her own action-packed series.

Frances Neagley is the perfect character to get her own show as she’s every bit as smart and brutal as Jack Reacher. The creative team behindNeagleywon’t have as much source material to draw upon for the character, compared to that of the team behind the Bosch spin-off based on Ballard, as she doesn’t feature in as many books as Michael Connelly’s Ballard. However, this could be a good thing as the character can go in any direction, without the constraints of sticking to the books. Neagley wasn’t part of Lee Child’s book,Persuader, but she will be very much a part ofReacherseason 3, proving that there are plenty of ideas for her character that don’t rely on her role in the book series.

Reacheris known for being largely faithful to Lee Child’s books, but changes have been made to accommodate Frances Neagley into the narrative.Lee Child explained Neagley’s prominence in the television series as opposed to the books in aninterview with Empirein February 2024:

Neagley was a strategic decision. The one thing you cannot do on screen that you can in a book is have the inside of somebody’s head. Reacher thinks a lot, and there are pages and pages of Reacher puzzling things out. You can’t write an eight-minute scene with Alan Ritchson sitting there, thinking. So we needed a secondary character to bolster the exposition.

This explains the initial reason behind Neagley’s bigger role in theReachertelevision series. However, she offers so much more than just providing key exposition, and this has inevitably led to her getting her own spin-off series.
