Summary
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crownis receiving an interesting new outfit from Ubisoft’s other 2024 game from the same franchise,The Rogue Prince of Persia. Kicking off Ubisoft’s loaded 2024,Prince of Persia: The Lost Crownquickly became an early Game of the Year contender, impressing 2D action platformer fans and marking the return of a franchise that’s been dormant for well over a decade.
The secondPrince of Persiagame to come out in 2024,The Rogue Prince of Persia, had its early access release in May. For it, Ubisoft enlisted the help of Evil Empire, the studio that formed out of Motion Twin, developer of2019’s massive roguelike indie hitDead Cells. The Rogue Prince of Persia’s roguelike spin on the series combined with its flashy 2D art style made it stand apart fromThe Lost Crown, which is a more traditional 2D metroidvania with a 3D art style. Unfortunately for console gamers,The Rogue Prince of Persiais currently only available on PC, though Evil Empire plans on bringing the game to consoles for its full 1.0 release.
Now,Prince of Persiafans on console can get asmall taste ofThe Rogue Prince of PersiainThe Lost Crown. On Twitter,Prince of Persiarevealed that, as part of a newLost Crownpatch ahead of next week’s Mask of Darkness DLC, it’s adding aRogue Prince of Persiaoutfit for protagonist Sargon. The Lost Crownalready has a number of interesting outfits for Sargon that players can find and that have been added as post-launch DLC, so it’s nice to see players get an extra one for free.
The Rogue Prince of Persia Outfit Is Coming to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Strangely, this new outfit ofThe Rogue Prince of Persia’s protagonist retains the character’s purple skin. While it works well withinThe Rogue Prince of Persia’s art style, bringing it directly intoThe Lost Crown’s world unaltered is a bold move. Though, with how basic the rest of the outfit is, the purple skin tone is the cosmetic’s only real identifiable quality, so it’s understandable why they kept it unchanged. SomePrince of Persiafans have been clamoring for Ubisoft to add anAssassin’s Creedskin toThe Lost Crown, seeing how closely related the two franchises are to one another. If this does ever happen, it’ll be interesting to see whether Ubisoft adds the robes of a classic assassin like Altair or Ezio, or if it would add Naoe’s outfit to promote itsupcomingAssassin’s Creed Shadowsthis November.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’s Mask of Darkness DLCis set to land next week, on September 17. The story DLC will look to add a new area to the game’s already massive 2D map, called Radjen’s Mind Palace, and will introduce a host of new traversal mechanics, enemies, and more. Whether Mask of Darkness isThe Lost Crown’s first and only story DLC is unknown, but withThe Rogue Prince of Persia’s 1.0 release also looming and theSands of Timeremake still happening, there’s a lot for fans of the franchise to be excited about.
