Though it has been known for quite some time now that the sequel toStar Wars Jedi: Survivorhas been in development, Respawn has recently confirmed that it is deep into development of the third game, fueling hopes that it could be released sooner than expected. It’s unclear where the third game will take Cal Kestis and his friends, but Respawn has confirmed that it will be the series' concluding chapter. After all, Cal’s absence in theStar Warsfilms needs to be considered, makingStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s sequel his last, in light of the series' timeline.
With theplot forStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s sequelstill being unknown, its title also hangs in the balance. However, by analyzing the events ofStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s ending and speculating on where the story could go from there, it might be possible to predict the sequel’s title, assuming it follows the same pattern that the previous two games have observed.
Star Wars Jedi: Legacy Seems Like the Most Likely Title for the Third Game
Of all the titles the next game in theStar Wars Jediseries could take on,Star Wars Jedi: Legacyseems the most likely—and it happens to be the most popular among fans. This prediction is on account of several variables, but what needs to first be taken into account is that it can’t be too obvious what it means.Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, for instance, is a double entendre of sorts, as it has more than one interpretation. On the one hand,“Survivor” obviously refers to Cal as a Jedi survivor continuing to survive ten years after the events of Order 66, but it also applies toBode Akuna, as his identity as another Jedi survivor is revealed later in the story.
The third game in the series may follow the same pattern, with an implied meaning that most fans will quickly assume and another hidden meaning that may be revealed throughout the story. If the third game is titledStar Wars Jedi: Legacy, it would make sense considering theending ofStar Wars Jedi: Survivor. As Cal is recalling who the late Cere was to him during her life, he begins speaking with her and says, “We will continue your legacy, Cere. We will build something that can outlast the Empire, I promise you that.”
This was about Cere’s mission to rebuild the Jedi Order, so Cal taking on that role in the third game would essentially be him continuing her legacy.
Star Wars Jedi: Legacywould also work as a double entendre in light of something else that happens at the end ofStar Wars Jedi: Survivor. Shortly after Cal airs out his thoughts to himself and a deceased Cere, Cere appears to Cal in a vision and says, “Cal. Guide her through the darkness,” in reference to Kata, Bode’s daughter. Assuming Kata is Force-sensitive like her father, Cere is likely askingCal to train Katain the ways of the Force to become a Jedi. If Cal does choose to take on the mantle of training Kata to become a Jedi, it would therefore mean continuing Cere’s legacy to rebuild the Jedi Order.
Since the word “legacy” is explicitly used duringStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s conclusion, it almost seems like a dead giveaway that it will be the next game’s title. At the same time, Respawn could pull a fast one on fans and title it something else entirely, likeStar Wars Jedi: Masteror, as some have speculated,Star Wars Jedi: Rise, as it moves in the opposite direction to the first game’s title,Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Respawn will presumably be announcing the nextStar Wars Jedigame by 2025 at the latest to either confirm or deny these speculations, but until then, it’s merely a guessing game.
