It’s pulling season for some players inHonkai: Star Rail.Version 2.5 kicks off with Feixiao’s bannerand a triple rerun with Robin, Kafka, and Black Swan. While the 5-star units are the natural focus of many people, as they provide the best performance, others may also be interested in the game’s latest 4-star character release: Moze. This Lightning-Hunt character will have a boosted rate during the 2.5 banners, so players pulling during this patch will likely get him, and even snag a few of his Eidolons. Therefore, the question is not whether he is worth getting, but whether one should take the time, effort, and Trailblaze Power to build him.
The 4-star characters inHonkai: Star Railand other MiHoYo gacha games, are often weaker than their 5-star counterparts. Some have carved their way into some mainstay teams as supports. However, 4-Star damage dealer units like Moze often get sidelined as their stats are understandably designed to be lower than their 5-star counterparts. Moze will likely have less impact than limited characters, especially as a primary damage dealer. He does have an interesting and unique mechanic that can boost the team’s overall damage, and he has great synergy with follow-up attack compositions. As such, it’s interesting to see how he’ll fit in the current meta.
Moze’s is a Strong Sub-DPS But Comes With a Slight Tradeoff
Moze’s kit allows him to attack fast and often, making him fit for a follow-up attack-heavy team. His bread and butter is his Talent (Cascading Featherblade) and Skill (Fleetwinged Raid) combo.Fleetwinged Raid damages an enemy and marks it as Prey. This also activates Moze’s talent, which makes him disappear from the battlefield, where he can’t be targeted by anyone. This is known as his Departed State, and it has a few pros and cons.
The Advantages of Moze’s Departed State
When an ally attacks his Prey, Moze deals additional lightning damage to them and consumes a charge. He also launches a full-blown follow-up attack that deals up to 160% of his ATK to his Prey every three charges.
The One Pitfall of Moze’s Departed State
Moze can’t be targeted by allies in his Departed State. As such, buffs fromHonkai: Star Rail’s Harmony unitsand heals won’t be able to reach him when he’s out of the battlefield. Players can work around this by speed-tuning their team so that their supports can buff Moze at the start of the round before he goes into his Departed State. Players can also use his basic attack if he goes first and utilize his skill in his next turn when he gets buffed, but this is significantly less efficient than the first option.
Moze’s Place in the Follow-Up Attack Meta
Moze’s multipliers and overall stats are inherently lower than his 5-star counterparts. Therefore, players should expect to use this unit as a sub-DPS to bolster the team’s damage and create opportunities for the main DPS, particularly Feixiao. However, even that slot is hotly contested by the likes of Topaz andMarch 7th’s Swordmaster form. Perhaps the best place for Moze is in an F2P follow-up comp with March and Gallaher, as his talent can capitalize on March’s Follow-ups and basic attacks, and Gallagher’s action advances with his ultimate and the Multiplication light cone. Sure, it’s not as powerful as a premium follow-up team, but it’s affordable and just as fun to play.
