Earlier this year,Pokimane revealed that she ended her exclusivity contract with Twitchdue to her dissatisfaction with the platform and the streaming landscape in general. Although she still goes live on the platform from time to time, she’s also focusing more on uploading YouTube content, managing Myna Snacks, and hosting podcasts, among many of her projects.
In the first episode of Pokimane and LilyPichu’s podcast,Sweet n' Sour, the former revealed that she once received a big offer tostream exclusively on YouTube. Pokimane admitted that she was so close to jumping ship because Twitch’s initial counter-offer was reportedly half of what YouTube was offering at the time, which she described as “life-changing money.” However, the streamer claimed that she wanted to stay at Twitch, and asked a C-level executive to help match YouTube’s contract.
Why Did Pokimane Turn Down a “Life-Changing” YouTube Offer?
After much back-and-forth, the Twitch executive reportedly accepted Pokimane’s request and decided to give her the same amount as YouTube. While Pokimane did end up staying with Twitch, she admitted that YouTube continued offering her more money to sign the contract, but she kept turning the company down because she gave Twitch her word. The streamer was also candid in saying it was “so stupid” of her to turn down a huge amount of money at the time.
Despite this, Pokimane did continue to have a successful Twitch career, even becoming one of themost-followed female streamerson the platform. Although Pokimane’s streaming schedule has become irregular, she said inSweet n' Sourthat she’s still passionate about making more content in the next three to five years.
In the last few years, YouTube has managed to acquire top streamers from Twitch, such as LilyPichu, Valkyrae, and Ludwig. However, it seems like someYouTube Gaming streamers are flocking back to Twitchas it offers better features and revenue. Many creators have also chosen not to be bound by exclusivity contracts and do a multistreaming setup on platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and Kick.
