Summary
New data indicates thatPokemon Sleepis a huge hit in Japan. While the mobile game is fairly successful globally,Pokemon Sleep’s Japanese user base dwarfs the ones from all other countries, including the United States.
Originally announced in 2019,Pokemon Sleepwas finally released last year, turning out to be quite a unique experience. InPokemon Sleep, gamers “play” during their slumber by leaving their smartphones by their pillow and then going to bed. During the night, the app tracks the user’s sleep patterns, employing this information to allow the user to attract new kinds of Pokemon, and learn different sleeping styles for them.
Now, Famitsu has published a new report from Sensor Tower (via Automaton Media) that showcased just how popularPokemon Sleepis in Japan. The game is currently the most downloaded mobile app in the Health & Fitness category in the country, with 450,000 downloads. To put these numbers in comparison, the secondmost popular app in the category isPokemon GO, which currently has 150,000 downloads. Japan is also by far the region where the game is most popular, with over a million active monthly users, followed by the United States, which currently has around half of that number.
Pokemon Sleep Has Over a Million Monthly Users in Japan
Another interesting detail of Sensor Tower’s report is that despite only 37% of the app’s downloads coming from Japan, that’s where most of its revenue comes from, as 70% of its total revenue is from the country. These numbers seem consistent with a previousreport that revealed how muchPokemon Sleepearnedduring its first year. According to this previous data,Pokemon Sleepmade over $100 million in revenue, with $73 million being from Japan, $15 million from the United States, and $4 million from Taiwan.
To keep its user base always engaged,Pokemon Sleepis constantly coming up with new updates. For example, duringPokemon Sleep’s first anniversary, the game added Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. AsPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers should already know, these Pokemon are the three starters in Gen 9, and the update was met with a positive reception by the game’s fan base. The developers behindPokemonSleepwill likely continue to come up with exciting new content in more updates, especially if they want to keep audiences outside of Japan still interested in the popular mobile game.
